China Covid Infections Hit 3-Month High

China reported 2,181 new Covid cases on Saturday , with infections surging to a three month high. Real Commercial said Sydney hotel occupancies are beginning to slip but hoteliers are still charging higher room rates. Lodging Stocks End the Week on a Down Note

The DJIA  rose 19 points, Nasdaq was up 27, the S&P 500 was up 10, the 10-year Treasury yield was down .01 to 2.88% and lodging stocks were higher on a calm day in the market. B.Riley Securities upped its price target on Ashford Inc to $23 from $19. Pebblebrook Hotel Trust said total revenue in July topped pre-pandemic levels for the first time since the onset of the pandemic.

Latest APAC Hotel Construction Pipeline Data

STR said China RevPAR for the week ended August 13 was up 107.7% year over, up against a -28.9% comparison. According to the recent Asia Pacific, excluding China, Hotel Construction Pipeline Trend Report from Lodging Econometrics , at the end of the second quarter the region’s total construction pipeline grew to 1,891 projects/396,517. Trip.com said that off-season travel between July to September for both Australia and Southeast Asian countries showed an increase as borders reopen.

Host Hotels’ price target was raised to $20 by Citigroup . Sterling Holiday Resorts , a subsidiary of Thomas Cook , said they will double its pan-India inventory to 5,000 rooms in the next three years. Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund and Cain International have invested $900 million in Aman Group to help accelerate the global expansion of the company. The City of Dreams Manila integrated resort welcomed Singapore’s famous restaurant brand TungLok Signatures to Manila, Philippines.

Macau’s Occupancy Rate Continues to Fall

The average occupancy rate of Macau’s hotels and guesthouses fell by -6.3 percentage points year over year in June to a very weak 39.1%. Singapore’s Changi Remains the Busiest in Asia

China reported 2,312 new Covid infections nationwide today , the first time in more than three months that cases topped 2,000 for three consecutive days. Singapore’s Changi Airport emerged as the busiest airport in Asia in the three months to June 30, 2022, recording more than double the number of passenger movements than its nearest rival. Choice Completes Acquisition of Radisson Hotels Americas

Choice Hotels International, Inc. has completed the acquisition of the franchise business, operations and intellectual property of Radisson Hotels Americas. Selina filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission a registration statement on Form F-4, in connection with its previously announced proposed business combination with BOA Acquisition Corp. The Gulf Coast’s first beachfront Hyatt Place hotel is now open in Panama City Beach.
