Chinese Domestic Tourism Posts Strong Golden Week Holiday Numbers

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism in China said domestic travelers reached 274 million during the recent Labour Day Golden Week holiday, topping 120% of pre-Covid levels. Chinese domestic tourism revenue reached US$21.4 billion during the period, up 128.9% yearly, recovering to 101% of the same period in 2019. International flights recovered to around 40% over the same period in 2019. There were more than 80,000 domestic flights booked during the holiday with the average daily level increasing by around 15% from the same period in 2019.

Hyatt Regency Danang Resort & Spa is set to introduce a new era of exciting hospitality to Vietnam’s central coast with the launch of a series of enhancements, including refreshed accommodation, social and culinary venues, children’s activities and more. The five-star resort was opened in 2011. New culinary venues, including Vive Oceana will open in June. This will be the first beach club restaurant of its kind in Danang. Terrasse has already opened, offering pre-dinner drinks, cocktails and canapes. The resort’s authentic Italian restaurant is being rebranded as Osteria al Mare. The resort’s 18 three-bedroom pool villas are being progressively refurbished with completion set by June. A new Art Gallery will be unveiled and Camp Hyatt is being expanded and relaunched.

Rosewood Hotels & Resorts has been appointed by Eleven D&C Co., Ltd. to manage Rosewood Seoul, a new build ultra-luxury hotel set to open in 2027. The hotel will exist within The Parkside Seoul beside Yongsan Park, occupying the former site of the United Nations Command. The mixed-use neighborhood will also include high-end retail and residences connected by expansive outdoor spaces. Rosewood Seoul will feature 250 rooms and suites, among the largest in the city. The urban resort will include seven restaurants and bars along with comprehensive wellness facilities. Rosewood Seoul will be home to Asaya, the company’s comprehensive wellness concept. Multi-purpose event space will total 1,800 square meters.

PT Intiland Development TBK, through subsidiary PT Intiwhiz International, opened the Whiz Luxe Hotel Spazio Surabaya in Indonesia. This is the first five-star hotel developed by Intiwhiz and will be their 25th hotel overall. Whiz Hotel Spazio is located on the top floor of Spazio Tower, a mixed-use & high-rise property close to the Graha Famili area.

Suba Group of Hotels, master franchisee of Choice Hotels India, announced the launch of Clarion Hotel, formerly known as Clarks Collection Dehradun, located in the center of Dehradun. The full-service hotel offers 27 rooms, a restaurant, bar, banquet hall and more.

Kaara Hotels and Resorts is targeting to have 101 properties across India in the next 10 years. They currently have four hotels and resorts spread across North India and five more in the pipeline. Kaara said they are one of the fastest-growing hotel chains in the country. Their explosive growth will be accomplished with expansion into new markets, investment in technology and infrastructure and guest experience enhancement. The next openings will be in Jaipur and Gurugram in the first half of 2023 with Jaipur opening on June 1. Kaara is planning to acquire 100 acres of land in various regions in North India and invest in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Goa.

Royal Orchid Hotels’ Royal Orchid & Regenta Hotels has launched the fifth Regenta Inn at Bannerghatta Road in Bengaluru. The new Indian property includes 55 executive rooms, a gym, in house restaurant and coffee shop.

Fortune Hotels signed another operating agreement for a new hotel in Amritsar in Punjab in India. The hotel will be the upscale chain’s fourth alliance in Punjab and the second property in Amritsar when it opens in Q2 for FY2023-2024.

Indian Hotels Company Ltd. announced the completion of the renovation of its marquee Taj Mahal, New Delhi and the introduction of ‘The Maharaja Suite’ at the landmark hotel. The suite design is a tribute to Air India’s mascot – The Maharaja, offering a uniquely themed master bedroom, dining room, an enclosed balcony lounge, and a study.

IHG Hotels & Resorts signed an agreement with Shangri-La Hotel & Resort Group of Nepal to develop four new hotels in the country. The deal will see the launch of three new InterContinental hotels and a Hotel Indigo property in diverse locations including Kathmandu and Pokhara Gharipatan. The four hotels will offer close to 500 rooms and are expected to open in the next one to four years. The hotels are InterContinental Kathmandu LazimpatHotel Indigo Pokhara GharipatanInterContinental Resort Pokhara Begnas Lake, and InterContinental Resort Chitwan, Meghauli. The InterContinental Lazimpat will be the biggest with 225 luxurious rooms.

IHG also announced its flagship Crowne Plaza brand will enter FijiCrowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay Resort & Spa will open in late 2023 following the signing of an agreement with Wailoaloa Hotel Pte Ltd. that will see IHG’s foothold in Fiji grow to five hotels. Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay Resort & Spa will be a conversion from Pullman Nadi Bay. The existing 342 rooms will be refreshed with brand-new two-bedroom family rooms and ocean-facing king suites set to be the crown jewels of the hotel. The resort will include a new day spa and a new 600-seat convention center to complement the hotel’s existing conferencing space.
