China Sees RevPAR Surge 54% Year-Over-Year

STR said China hotel RevPAR for the week ended December 9 was up 54.2% year over year. The week’s RevPAR was up against a -6.4% comp last year. When compared with 2019, RevPAR was down -3.9%.

STR said Jakarta hotels recorded their highest levels in occupancy and RevPAR since November 2011 and November 2013, respectively. The preliminary November data has occupancy at 79.8%, up 10.9% year over year, ADR up 10.4% to IDR1,030,269.24 resulting in RevPAR of IDR822,163.52, up 22.5%. Jakarta hosted events that helped performance last month, including a Coldplay concert and IndoBuildTech Expo. The highest occupancy levels the night of the Coldplay concert, November 15, at 92.7%. Jakarta’s occupancy levels remained above the 70% mark for all but three days during the month.

South Korea will extend a visa fee-exemption scheme to Chinese group travelers until the end of 2024. An existing exemption program on the usual US$15 fee for such travelers began in September and had been due to expire at the end of the year. Group travelers from Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam would also be exempt from the equivalent fee until the end of 2024. South Korea welcomed just over 1.54 million Chinese nationals as tourists from January to October.

Singapore’s November visitor arrival tally was 1.1 million, flat month on month when compared to October’s $1.13 million. The November result took the tally for the first 11 months of the year to 12.37 million, up 130.2% year on year. That total was 71% of the 2019 levels for the same period. In November, Indonesia and China kept their sports as the top source markets for tourists. Indonesia had 183,890 visitors while Mainland China was second at 104,280. For the first 11 months, Mainland China only supplied 36.7% of what they did in 2019.

Accor announced five new properties in Asia. They have opened 26 properties across Asia this year. New openings include the ibis PJCC Petaling Jaya in Malaysia; Novotel Suites Manila at Acqua in the Philippines; Mercure Tokyo Haneda Airport in Japan; Grand Mercure Lampung in Indonesia; and Novotel Jaipur Convention Center in India.

In a separate announcement, Accor, together with Sunmei Group, announced the opening of the first Movenpick by Accor destination – Movenpick by Accor Qingdao Sunmei, in the coastal city of Qingdao in eastern Shandong Province. The new flagship hotel is the first milestone of the strategic alliance between Accor and Sunmei. Movenpick by Accor is an extension of the Movenpick Hotels & Resorts brand. Accor said Movenpick by Accor signings include NanjingChengduHangzhouSuzhouShenzhenChaozhou Raoping, to name a few. Sunmei and Accor plans to open more than 400 Movenpick by Accor smart technology hotels, resorts and extended stay properties, representing more than 60,000 guestrooms in cities and destinations across China.

IHG Hotels & Resorts signed a management agreement with A.R Resorts & Hotels Pvt Ltd to develop a new hotel in the city of Amritsar – voco Amritsar Airport. The 139 keys hotel is set to open its doors to travelers in December 2024. Once opened, voco Amritsar Airport will cater to the demands for social gatherings and MICE with 805 square meters of meeting space spread across five venues including a ballroom. The hotel will also feature three F&B outlets, an outdoor pool, rejuvenating spa, and a well-equipped gym.

Radisson Hotel Group said it opened the 100 room Uday Palace Navsari under Radisson Individuals in Surat in GujaratRadisson is looking to reach a diverse range of locations, especially in vibrant tier II and tier III cities. RHG is one of India’s largest international hotel operators with over 165 hotels in operation and development. They are the largest hotel operator in tier-1 markets like Delhi NCR and more than 50% of its portfolio is in tier-2 and tier-3 markets.

The Palace, a firm based out of Goa, announced the opening of Ramada by Wyndham Goa Vagator in partnership with Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. The hotel is less than a kilometer from Vagator Beach. It features 70 contemporary rooms, a lobby lounge, all day dining restaurant and bar, meetings and event spaces, a business center, refreshing wellness areas and an outdoor swimming pool. This is Wyndham’s second hotel in the state of Goa.

The 142 room Fairfield by Marriott Cebu Mandaue City is open to leisure and business travelers. The nine story hotel tower is the first Fairfield brand establishment in Cebu. The hotel is owned by Prestigio, Inc.

Galaxy Entertainment Group held a formal ceremony to mark the completion of its Phase 3 expansion project on Cotai in Macau. That includes the 700 room Andaz hotel, 450 suite Raffles hotel and 40,000 square meter Galaxy International Convention CenterGalaxy also said a new hotel brand will be unveiled, adding about 100 new hotel rooms to the casino resort. Galaxy would not reveal the brand but said its esteemed reputation is on a global scale.
