Macau to Add 3,000 Hotel Rooms

Nearly 3,000 new hotel rooms are under construction in Macau, with seven more projects planned, while neighboring Hengqin offers cheaper accommodation alternatives.

STR reported China hotel data for the week ended July 27. China hotel RevPAR was down -11.3% year over year during the week, up against a +27.9% comp in the year-ago week. Occupancy was down -2% year over year while ADR was down -9.5%.

The Land and Urban Construction Bureau in Macau said nearly 3,000 new hotel rooms are under construction within the five new hotels currently being developed. Seven more hotel projects are in the planning phase but they would only total an additional 900 rooms. As of June, there were 48,408 hotel rooms across 149 hotels in Macau, according to the Macao Government Tourism Office with almost 80% being rated either five or four star. Despite the government forcing the casinos to spend billions on non-gaming amenities, resulting in a surge in the so-called low rolling mass market or non-gamblers, only 4.1% of the hotels are two-star with another 2.4% categorized as economical accommodation establishments. Neighboring Hengqin has positioned itself as a cheaper alternative for the city's Chinese visitors.

Marriott's Autograph Collection Hotels announced the opening of The Osaka Station Hotel, Autograph Collection in OsakaJapan. This is the fifth hotel in the expanding portfolio of Autograph Collection hotels in Japan. The Osaka Station Hotel has 418 rooms with the hotel located in JP Tower Osaka with each room arranged in an L-shape along the perimeter of the building. Specialty Suites on each floor take guests above the clouds, offering views from 170 meters above the ground. The Specialty Salon is located on the 38th floor. The hotel has a lobby bar, Moment Grill & Dining and Teppanyaki Mizuki for food options. The GYM is located on the 30th floor and the hotel offers 1,250 square meters of meeting and event space.

The Four Seasons Hotel Osaka has opened, featuring the city's first contemporary ryokan experience on its own dedicated floor. The hotel is housed within the new One Dojima multi-use building in the city's Dojima neighborhood. Four Seasons Hotel Osaka debuted the dedicated Gensui floor, a contemporary ryokan experience on the 28th floor. In addition to the Gensui floor accommodations, the hotel offers 130 more guest rooms and 24 suites, all with elevated city views from the 29th to 35th floors of the hotel. The suites include the lavish Presidential, Grand Osaka and Dojima Suites. There are various food and beverage options and The Spa at Four Seasons encompasses the entire 36th floor of the hotel. Wellness facilities also include ofuro, or Japanese baths, and sauna, as well as a 16 meter indoor pool and fitness center.

The Fairfield by Marriott announced the opening of its third hotel in Malaysia. The Fairfield by Marriott Kuala Besut is located in Kuala BesutTerengganu and offers 98 standard, deluxe and premium rooms as well as a Solo's Traveler's Pod to cater to business and leisure travelers to the East Coast region of Peninsular Malaysia. Facilities include an all-day dining restaurant and 24-hour fitness center. Guests have access to the Perhentian Marriott Waiting Lounge which provides concierge services to assist with their travel plans.

Accor Greater China and Shandong Tai'erzhuang Ancient Town State-owned Capital Investment and Operation Limited Company announced the signing of a new development project, featuring two of Accor's hotel brands. In Tai'erzhuang Ancient TownZaozhuang CityShandong Province, a new 120-guestroom Pullman Tai'erzhuang will overlook the banks of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, while the 200-guestroom Novotel Tai'erzhuang will be in the heart of the historic town.

The Star announced its five star hotel located in Queen's Wharf BrisbaneThe Star Grand, has started hotel bookings from August 29th, the day the property is scheduled to open. The hotel will open with 340 rooms encompassing 60 suites, four Penthouse suites and 276 standard rooms. The August 29 opening is part of the phased roll-out of The Star Brisbane and Queen's Wharf multi-staged opening. The hotel will open with three restaurants and four bars, the casino, event center and leisure deck. Facilities such as the gym, pools, steam room and sauna will not be available for bookings before November. A further six food & beverage venues are also scheduled to open later, as well as the Dorsett Hotel and Rosewood Hotel. Luxury retail, heritage buildings and another café are coming soon as well.

The InterContinental Hotels & Resorts brand will return to the Philippines after IHG Hotels & Resorts signed a franchise agreement with Hann Philippines, Inc., owner of Clark's Hann Casino ResortInterContinental Clark will sit at the heart of Hann's 450-hectare Hann Reserve luxury estate in New Clark City by way of a 250-key property expected to open to guests in 2031. Development of the hotel will commence in 2027. The property will offer two restaurants and two bars, meeting spaces for 600 people, the brand's signature Club InterContinental Lounge, a Health Club and Spa, swimming pool, Kids Club and a retail outlet.

HIIVE by fusion Binh Duong New City is now open in Binh Duong in southern Vietnam. The hotel is 38km north of Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City near Hikari ComplexBinh Duong New City Park and the Binh Duong World Trade Center Association. The 175-room hotel offers spacious rooms for longer stays with dedicated work areas in each room. The hotel offers a fitness center and golf simulator, two high-tech meeting rooms, a restaurant and a bar and 24-hour laundry services. This follows the launch of HIIVE by Fusion Binh Duonglast year.

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts signed a franchise agreement with The Adityaz Hotels to open a new Wyndham Garden-branded property in GwaliorMadhya PradeshIndia. The hotel will host around 90 rooms and various amenities such as multiple dining options, separate meeting spaces, a swimming pool and banquet halls as well as space for other recreational facilities. Wyndham also announced they entered a franchise agreement with Sankalp Recreation, an Indian hospitality and restaurant company, to incorporate an existing hotel in AhmedabadGujarat, India under its brand. The existing property will be rebranded as Ramada by Wyndham Ahmedabad Narendra Modi Stadium Motera. The hotel will feature more than 55 contemporary rooms, expected to open its doors later this year. Amenities will include a lobby lounge, all-day dining restaurant and bar, a spa, swimming pool, health club, and dedicated meeting space and a business center.
