The Gujarat, India government is moving forward with a new hotel and tourism policy to strengthen the state's tourism infrastructure. The upcoming 2030 Commonwealth Games and a potential 2036 Olympics have made this a pressing priority. The estimates are that Ahmedabad alone could need more than 60,000 rooms during the Commonwealth Games. Hotel industry groups believe at least 300 new hotels will need to be built across Gujarat to meet this target. The government plans to focus on structural relaxations to ease the process for investors, assuring them extra floor space index at no cost, enabling hotels to be built with greater capacity. Also in the cards is relief on property tax and other government levies for a specified period, along with discounted electricity rates for hotels, replacing the standard commercial tariff.
