Chinese Hotel ADRs Rise Into New Year Holiday

JP Morgan said its JPM Hotel Tracker shows consistent strength for major listed Chinese hotels' weekly ADR into the Chinese New Year holidays, the week of February 16th. Presale ADRs across all players in early March are higher than presale ADRs before CNY as well as March last year. JPM said that if this holds, it may finally see industry-wide ADR or even RevPAR turning positive year-over-year in March. Its tracker also shows presale ADRs in the two weeks after CNY have been more resilient than the trend last year. The National Development and Reform Commission is projecting a record high 9.5 billion trips during CNY, up 5% year-over-year, driven by longer holiday and strong demand for warm-weather destinations such as Shantou and Jieyang in Guangdong.
