Philippines developer Megaworld is set to open the country's largest hotel complex, Grand Westside Hotel, in Manila's Entertainment City, with the first tower opening before the end of the year and the second tower in 2024. Discovery World Corp has opened a five-star resort hotel, Discovery Samal, in Limao, Philippines, featuring 128 hotel suites and extensive facilities, aiming to boost tourist arrivals in the region.

China Eases Some Zero-Covid Policies

On Thursday, China’s new top leadership body reaffirmed Beijing’s “dynamic zero” Covid-19 policy in their first meeting since the Communist Party’s Congress last month. Chinese hotel operator Atour raised $52 million in an initial public offering in the United States. Indian Hotels Company said they plan to emerge as the most iconic and most profitable company in South Asia by 2025 and that plan is on track.

Marriott and Hilton Increase Share Buyback Authorizations

Lodging stocks were higher again with MCG up 11%, HT up 8%, ABNB up 7%, SLNA up 6% and SVC up another 5%. Both Marriott International and Hilton announced an increase in their share buyback authorizations. Hilton announced its board of directors authorized the repurchase of an additional $2.5 billion of common stock under its existing stock repurchase program.

Oyo Hotels filed new financial documents with the Securities and Exchange Board of India. Japan plans to resume visa-free air tickets in October and  Taiwan plans to open its borders from mid-to-late October.
