Los Cabos, Mexico’s Growth Attracts More Hotel Brands

Lodging stocks were mostly lower. SOND was up 6% but that was pretty much it for any type of positive movement.  MCG fell another -11%, SLNA was down -7%, SOHO and ABNB both fell -5%. JP Morgan lowered their rating on Membership Collective Group to Neutral from Overweight. JPM said their downgraded was based on MGC’s exposure to Europe. Los Cabos Tourism Board announced unprecedented growth in tourism arrivals is expected by the end of 2022 with more than 3.3 million visitors.

Fosun Denies Claims It's Seeking Buyer for Club Med

Bloomberg said Fosun is also considering strategic options for French luxury resort chain Club Med SAS and could seek a value of about $1.5 billion for the business. Shanghai Disney Resort remains closed, two weeks after Covid-19 cases caused operations to cease. Marriott International announced plans to expand its select service portfolio in Greater China with the expected addition of 30 hotels in the segment by the end of 2023.

Marriott International will be adding about 13-14 hotels in India under different brands in the next 12 months. Hong Kong has continued to loosen Covid restrictions , now targeting eventgoers. Hilton announced the signing of an agreement with Wondergrain Exports Private Limited to launch DoubleTree by Hilton Amritsar .

DiamondRock Beats Preliminary Results

DiamondRock Hospitality reported 3Q results, beating the preliminary results they announced two weeks ago. Jefferies cut its rating on Xenia Hotels & Resorts to Hold from Buy. Lodging stocks were mixed. SLNA plunged another -20%, quickly becoming the biggest disaster in a long line of SPAC disappointments in the past year

Summer-to-Fall Lodging Habits Look Different in 2022

In a very wild session with a 1500-point swing, the DJIA ended the day up 827 points while Nasdaq was up 249, the S&P 500 rose 98, the 10-year treasury yield was up .05 to 3.95% and lodging stocks were higher. In an excerpt from CoStar , the transition from the summer to fall travel seasons has been different than in the past years, according to some U.S. hoteliers, who are adjusting strategies for selling hotel rooms to meet the new demand. The  DJIA  fell 28 points,  Nasdaq  was down 9, the  S&P 500  fell 12 points and the  10-year treasury yield  was down .04 to 3.90%. Braemar Hotels & Resorts Inc . reported the company expects to report occupancy of approximately 71% for the third quarter of 2022 with an ADR of approximately $403 resulting in RevPAR of approximately $288. Ashford Hospitality Trust, Inc . announced the company expects to report occupancy of approximately 71% for the third quarter of 2022 with an ADR of approximately $179 resulting in RevPAR of approximately $127.

Airbnb Given an Outperform Rating

Bernstein  initiated coverage on  Airbnb  with an Outperform rating and $143 price target. B of A Securities  cut their rating on Membership Collective to Underperform from Buy. They lowered their price target to $4 from $12. Service Properties Trust  announced it amended the agreement governing its revolving credit facility and exercised its option to extend its maturity date to July 2023.

Hurricane Ian's Impact on Florida Hotels

The  DJIA  surged 765 points while  Nasdaq  was up 234, the  S&P 500  rose 90 points and the 10 year treasury yield was down .15 to 3.66%. Raymond James  reported on  hotels impacted by Hurricane Ian ’s decimation of southwest Florida. While Tampa Bay dodged the bullet, Sarasota all the way down took a hit led by Naples, Fort Myers, Sanibel, Captiva, Boca Grande, Venice and Punta Gorda. Aimbridge Hospitality  announces its  international division , Interstate Hotel & Resorts has launched its new corporate identity, formally debuting as the Aimbridge EMEA division.

Peachtree Hospitality Adding 1,500 Rooms to Portfolio

The  DJIA fell another 325 points on Monday, Nasdaq was up 0.1%, the S&P 500 fell 0.6% and the 10-year treasury yield rose to 3.88%. Peachtree Hospitality Development is on track to deliver a record year of development achievements. In 2022, PHD opened three select-service hotels, with another hotel slated to open later this year. Embassy Suites by Hilton Washington D.C. Convention Center announced the completion of its $30 million renovation that includes a complete transformation to the hotel featuring a fresh, modern redesign.

New York City Continues Its Hotel Recovery

The DJIA  fell another 313 points, Nasdaq was down 110, the S&P 500 was down 44 points and if you thought mortgages were high before, the 10-year treasury yield was up another .08 to 3.57%. Playa Hotels & Resorts announced its board of directors reauthorized the repurchase of up to $100 million of the company’s outstanding shares. According to Hodges Ward Elliott's Q2 report , the New York City hospitality sector continues its recovery as travel surges and hotels reopen.
