Canada’s hotel performance came in lower than the month prior but showed improved comparisons to 2019, according to STR ‘s November 2022 data. Overall, stocks gave back most of their pre-market gains. Lodging stocks wound up mixed on the day. Commonwealth Hotels acquired the 120-suite Residence Inn Houston-West University and the 100-room Courtyard by Marriott Houston-West University. Aimbridge Hospitality announced the expansion of its portfolio with the addition of three extended stay properties recently acquired by Three Wall Capital, LLC.

Marriott Vacations Worldwide Corporation announced an increase in its quarterly dividend. MCR has acquired the Staybridge Suites Chattanooga Downtown , a five-story, extended-stay hotel in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The DJIA rose 35 points Friday while Nasdaq was down 21, the S&P 500 was down 5 points and the 10-year treasury yield was down .02 to 3.51%.

Lodging stocks were mixed. Choice (CHH) was the big loser, down -9%, while MCG was down -7% and AINC fell -6%. Choice Hotels received a mixed response to their 3Q earnings report from analysts and a big thumbs down from investors. Hilton announced the opening of its two-hundredth hotel in the Caribbean and Latin America, Waldorf Astoria Cancun , a 173-room luxury resort set on 100 acres of coastline.

Wyndham and Hilton kicked off the lodging earnings season, both with solid reports. It was an interesting day with the DJIA up 3 points but Nasdaq down 228. Don’t you love earnings season? Meanwhile, hotel RevPAR for the week ended 10/22 was up 27.8%, according to STR .

Lodging stocks were mixed. AINC was up 5% while the biggest mover was to the downside with VCSA falling -14%. Morgan Stanley lowered their price target on Airbnb to $105 from $125. MS maintained their Equal Weight rating. Xenia Hotels & Resorts sold the 115-room Celebration Hotel to Vision Hospitality Group .

The  DJIA fell another 0.6% on Tuesday, Nasdaq was down 0.1%, the S&P 500 fell 0.5% and the 10-year treasury yield rose to 3.963%, its peak since 2010. Truist reported on a conference call it held with corporate travel data company Tripbam . Takeaways included that any indications of a recession have not yet shown up in business travel bookings and pricing data . Evercore ISI Group upped its rating on Hyatt to Outperform from In Line. Their price target is $100.

The equity indexes have really calmed down while treasuries get really volatile. Lodging stocks were higher. AINC was the big mover, up 11%. SMBC Nikko cut its rating on Park Hotels & Resorts to Neutral from Outperform. Its price target is $16. The CBRE Hotels Research State of the Union showcases current demand trends, as well as fundamentals by segment, location type and chain scale.

The vast majority of lodging company earnings, both REIT and C-Corp , have been very positive, with the REITs being the biggest surprise. Crescent Hotels & Resorts has added The Viv, Anaheim, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel , to its Latitudes: Lifestyle by Crescent collection. Black Creek Mexico announced that Grupo Alojica completed the Westin Resort & Spa acquisition, in Puerto Vallarta , from affiliates of Marriott Vacations Worldwide .
