Morgan Stanley Gets Cautious About U.S. Hotel Companies

The DJIA, Nasdaq, and S&P 500 experienced growth with varied changes in lodging stocks. Morgan Stanley adjusted price targets for numerous lodging companies, including Sunstone Hotels and Host Hotels . Major hospitality companies, such as Selina Hospitality , Whitestone Companies , and Marriott Hilton Head Resort & Spa, announced important business updates including investments, renovations, and acquisitions. EOS Hospitality , Hotel Equities , and Aimbridge Hospitality made key personnel changes. Accor plans to open 1,200 hotels in the next five years, with a RevPAR growth of 15% to 20%. Aimbridge Hospitality will manage the Alliance Palace Aparthotel in Batumi, Georgia.

China hotel industry shows strong recovery with a 59.8% increase in RevPAR compared to last year. Ascott Ltd. plans to expand its properties in Malaysia and diversify into the hotel business. Raimon Land Plc announces three luxury projects in Phuket and Bangkok, targeting the luxury segment.

It was a rough one for Airbnb as investors seemed blindsided by their guidance. The 1Q results were in line but ABNB said they expect 2Q bookings to have slower growth . The best thing to be said about Vacasa’s earnings report came from JP Morgan . Their headline was the quarter was better than feared. STR reported US lodging data for the week ended 5/6. US hotel RevPAR was up 8.4% year over year.

Choice Hotels Buys Back Stock and Boosts Dividend

Choice Hotels International reported solid 1Q results, better than expectations. In the good old days, when stocks actually moved up and down based on fundamentals. Deutsche Bank upped their target price on Ryman Hospitality to $128 from $126 and reiterated their Buy rating. The Four Seasons Hotel Boston has reopened following the completion of a dramatic design update of its arrival area, lobby and port cochere.

Hyatt Buys Boutique Booking Platform

JP Morgan upgraded their rating on Accor to Neutral from Underweight with a price target of €30, up from €24.50. Hyatt Hotels Corporation  and  Mr & Mrs Smith  announced an agreement for a Hyatt affiliate to acquire Mr & Mrs Smith, a platform offering direct booking access to boutique hotels.

Raines Buys HP Hotels, Hilton to Expand in France

Raines announced they acquired HP Hotels , a full-service, third party hotel management company. Raines said this will result in operational expansion throughout the Southeast and Southwestern U.S. The Courtyard by Marriott Long Beach Downtown announced the addition of two Topgolf Swing Suites at their 216-room hotel. Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa , in Atlantic City, New Jersey , is embarking on a $55 million redesign and rebranding of The Water Club, in time for the resort’s twentieth anniversary.

Thailand’s Latest Hotel Subsidy

STR said China Hotel RevPAR , the week ending March 4, was up 67.2% year over year. The Bangkok Post reported that 112,876 room nights were reserved out of 560,000 available within six hours of the latest phase of Thailand’s hotel subsidy program going live. Marriott International announced plans to introduce the Ritz-Carlton to Phuket, Thailand following the signing of an agreement with Asset World Corporation .

Shrugging Off the Fed, Hotels Put Heads in Beds

voco hotels celebrated 100 properties signed and opened globally. The emerging IHG Hotels & Resorts’ brand reached the milestone in just five years after its first-ever hotel opening. Island Hospitality Management announced the company added 14 hotels to its third-party management portfolio during 2022. Moxy Williamsburg debuted today as the brand’s first hotel in Brooklyn, New York.

Vietnam Forecasts a Tourism Rebound

STR said hotel RevPAR in China was up 58% year over year for the week ended February 25. The number of foreign tourists arriving in Vietnam in February reached 933,000, up 7.1% versus January. Hilton announced it will bring its Doubletree brand to The Orange City for the first time with DoubleTree by Hilton Nagpur .
