Marriott International announced a year of robust room signings and additions across the Caribbean and Latin America in 2023. The Company nearly doubled its number of organic deal signings in the region versus the prior year.

Foreign investors like Goldman Sachs, KKR, and Blackstone have invested $2 billion in Japanese hotel deals this year, driven by a hotel business rebound and favorable exchange rates. Hilton plans substantial growth in Southeast Asia, introducing a new Hilton Garden Inn prototype and adding seven new hotels in Malaysia, including new brands like Curio Collection and Waldorf Astoria. Accor expands across Asia with 30 new hotels, focusing on markets like Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia, and India, while also partnering to introduce the Swissotel brand to Malaysia with Swissotel Genting Highlands.

Financial Markets: DJIA up 184 points, Nasdaq up 26, S&P 500 rose 18 points, and 10-year treasury yield up to 3.86%. Lodging stocks performed poorly despite overall market gains. JP Morgan anticipates unimpressive 2Q23 RevPAR results and mixed net rooms growth in the lodging sector. They remain cautious due to tougher year-over-year comparisons and potential effects from tightening credit conditions. Several hotels are being developed or opened, including a 100-room hotel in Northeast Philadelphia, a Marriott Residence Inn in West Vail, and a Fairfield Inn & Suites in Conway, South Carolina. Some projects are facing challenges, like the halted construction of a Homewood Suites in Skokie, Illinois, due to high-interest rates.

Accor said they signed an agreement with Panthers Group for a new five-star Pullman hotel at the Penrith Panthers precinct in Western Sydney . InterContinental Khao Yai is a new resort in Thailand , located in Nakhon Ratchasima province in Khao Yai National Park . IHG , in cooperation with Bao Quan Investment & Construction Joint Stock Company , will open its first Crowne Plaza hotel in Vinh Yen City in the northern province of Vinh Phuc this November.

The  DJIA  fell 94 points,  Nasdaq  was down 110, the  S&P 500  fell 27 points and the  10-year treasury yield  was up .01 to 3.89%. The parent of  Allegiant Air  said that damage from Hurricane Ian has caused the company to delay the planned opening of a resort north of Fort Myers, FL at Charlotte Harbor. Royal Investments LLC , the developer of a proposed Downtown hotel in  Louisville, KY , is seeking a new tax increment financing district for the project.
