IHG Accelerates Global Expansion

Choice Hotels International purchased more shares in Wyndham Hotels & Resorts in its unsolicited exchange offer to acquire the company. The Baird/STR Hotel Stock Index rose 9.3% in November, with the Hotel REIT sub-index up 7.6% year-to-date and the Hotel Brand sub-index up 30.6% year-over-year. BCD Travel forecasts a global decrease in airfares and a 6.8% increase in hotel rates in 2024.

US RevPAR was up 16.7% year over year while RevPAR was up 13.7% versus the same week in 2019.

STR’s global “bubble chart” update through November 19, 2022 showed the strongest performance of the year thus far. The U.S. Travel Association’s latest biannual travel forecast shows a downgrade in international inbound travel for the remainder of this year and for 2023.

Hilton Grand Vacations clearly had the best report of the timeshare group with their 3Q results, with a solid beat of estimates. STR reported US hotel RevPAR rose 21.1% year over year for the week ended 11/5. JLL’s Hotels & Hospitality Group released its second annual Hotels Global Asset Management Report outlining tips for profitability and minimizing operational risks.
