60 Percent of Americans More Likely to Stay in Hotels in 2023 Than Last Year
JP Morgan gave their 2023 lodging outlook presentation, saying they see the REITs as relative underperformers versus the C-Corps. They see Wyndham Hotels and Hyatt Hotels as relative out performers within lodging. The DJIA rose 186 points while Nasdaq was up 107, the S&P 500 rose 27 points and the 10-year treasury yield was up .10 to 3.62%. Lodging stocks were higher. Barclays said December lodging RevPAR ended on a strong note, very notable after Pebblebrook Hotel Trust’s guidance cut during the month. -

Poll Reveals Japan Interest Among U.S. Travelers
Adelaide hosting the Australian Football League’s Gather Round and LIV Golf in April 2023 has resulted in a boost in the market’s hotel occupancy on the books. 35.7% of Americans surveyed are aware that Japan is now open for travel with Asian Americans at 57% and 41.3% of those living in Western US. BWH Hotels Group said they are continually expanding with six new signings of properties in Pakistan and Vietnam . -

Beijing’s International Airport and Daxing Airport have dropped the requirement for a negative Covid-19 test result to enter their terminals. Hotels on the Indonesian holiday island of Bali are booked solid for the Christmas and New Year period . China Continues Outbound Tour Suspensions
STR reported China hotel RevPAR for the week ended 11/12 was up 17.5% year over year. China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism announced it would continue to suspend outbound tours by mainland travel agencies. In the recent China Construction Pipeline Trend Report from Lodging Econometrics , LE analysts report that China’s total hotel construction pipeline, at the close of Q3 2022, stands at 3,604 projects/684,288 rooms. -

Selina Plunges on Second Trading Day
Pebblebrook Hotel Trust reported sold 3Q22 earnings, but since they give monthly updates and pre-announced, there was no surprise. While lodging stocks were higher, the action in Selina on Friday was just as ridiculous as on Thursday but in the other direction. While Travel + Leisure’s stock price rebounded a little bit after Thursday’s earnings-induced decline, Credit Suisse lowered the boom on them. -

Airbnb Given an Outperform Rating
Bernstein initiated coverage on Airbnb with an Outperform rating and $143 price target. B of A Securities cut their rating on Membership Collective to Underperform from Buy. They lowered their price target to $4 from $12. Service Properties Trust announced it amended the agreement governing its revolving credit facility and exercised its option to extend its maturity date to July 2023. -
