China Outbound Travel to Spike in Early May
Fitch Ratings said China’s domestic travel has seen a significant uptick in the first quarter of this year and is likely to gain momentum in the second quarter. Trip.com said the first round of outbound travel fever in China is coming ahead of the May Labor Day . The construction of Galaxy Entertainment’s Raffles at Galaxy Macau and Andaz Macau , as well as the resort of the phase 3 hotel project for the Cotai casino , is basically complete. -

Blackstone Raises a $30 Billion Investment Fund
Blackstone announced the final close of its Blackstone Real Estate Partners X fund with $30.4 billion of total capital commitments, the largest real estate or private equity drawdown fund ever raised. Truist lowered their target price on Pebblebrook Hotel Trust, saying they have concerns over 2024 San Francisco conventions along with rising hotel-level costs. Sotherly Hotels reported preliminary operating results for 1Q23 for their 10 wholly-owned properties. RevPAR was up 21.4% led by an 11.4% jump in occupancy. Tighter budgets, busy airports, and soaring prices are prompting a more frugal tourist to return . Even high-end travelers are pulling back on their vacation spending, Bloomberg reported. Lightstone announced the April 12 debut of the 37-story, 727-key Moxy & AC Hotels Downtown Los Angeles. -

In an amazing recovery from over 700 points down, the DJIA ended the day down only 280 points while Nasdaq rallied to end up 6. Vacasa’s stock price plunged well into penny stock category, joining Sonder, before recovering somewhat, ending the day down -25%. Braemar Hotels & Resorts and Ashford Hospitality Trust both issued press releases, clarifying that their cash holdings are safe . STR reported US lodging data for the week ended 3/11. US hotel RevPAR was up 11.1% year over year. -

In a day that was everything that was expected, the financial indexes and individual stocks were whipsawed. B.Riley lowered their price target on Ashford Hospitality Trust to $6.50 from $9. They maintained their Neutral rating. Jon Bortz , chairman of Pebblebrook Hotel Trust has been on a bit of an insider buying spree the past few weeks. He has purchased a total of 64,000 shares between 2/28 and 3/9 at prices ranging from $14.30 to $14.67. -

voco hotels celebrated 100 properties signed and opened globally. The emerging IHG Hotels & Resorts’ brand reached the milestone in just five years after its first-ever hotel opening. Island Hospitality Management announced the company added 14 hotels to its third-party management portfolio during 2022. Moxy Williamsburg debuted today as the brand’s first hotel in Brooklyn, New York. -

Marriott’s Stellar Quarter and Optimistic Outlook
Marriott International followed up Hilton’s solid 4Q earnings report with one of their own, easily beating estimates on solid 4.6% RevPAR growth. 21c Museum Hotels will open its tenth hotel this spring, a 10-story lodging in St. Louis, Missouri. Marriott was up $6.90 a share, Hyatt was up $4.73, Hilton was up $2.38 and Airbnb is currently surging double digits in after hours trading on their earnings report -

Price of U.S. Hotels Shows Strength in Most Regions
The DJIA rose 208 points while Nasdaq was down 203, the S&P 500 fell 46 points and the 10-year treasury yield was down .02 to 3.65%. STR reported US lodging RevPAR for the week ended February 4. RevPAR was up 26.6% year over year. When compared with the same week in 2019, RevPAR was up 6.1%. Three historic buildings in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio will soon become a hotel when combined with a newly built seven-story tower. -

U.S. Hotel Construction Increased in December
After 25 consecutive months of year-over-year declines, U.S. hotel construction increased slightly in December. Wells Fargo cut their price target on Airbnb to $130 from $165. They maintained their Overweight rating. STR said US hotel RevPAR the week ended 1/14 was up 33.1%. RevPAR was up 9.4% versus the same week in 2019.
