Vietnam’s Booming Hotel Sector
The global hotel industry is seeing increased activity with notable transactions in Vietnam, Macau, Japan, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Thailand, and India. Key deals include Marriott International’s operation of seven hotels from Vinpearl in Vietnam, Accor’s new Novotel in Nara, Japan, and DoubleDragon’s launch of the largest hotel in Bonifacio Global City in the Philippines. Several hotel brands are expanding their footprints, with Wyndham Hotels & Resorts signing two agreements with Fulcrum Ventures Asia and Marriott International’s Fairfield brand entering Agra, India. -

Chinese Domestic Tourism Posts Strong Golden Week Holiday Numbers
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism in China said domestic travelers reached 274 million during the recent Labour Day Golden Week holiday, topping 120% of pre-Covid levels . Fosun Expects Sustained Chinese Tourism Boom
Hotels were reported to be full in parts of the Philippines during the Holy Week break. The Commerce Federation of Macau Central and Southern District said Macau received over 300,000 visitors during the four-day Easter holiday period . Fosun Tourism expects a sustained boom in Chinese tourism in the second and third quarters. Fosun is planning expansions in resort projects in China’s tier I and tier II cities. -

Biden’s New Budget Triggers Equity Market Drops
Baird lowered their price target on Wyndham Hotels & Resorts to $86 from $88 while maintaining their Outperform rating. Barclays cut their rating on Hyatt Hotels to Equal Weight from Overweight. They cut their price target to $125 from $130. They upped Hilton to an Overweight rating from Equal Weight. Travel + Leisure Co . announced their upped their quarterly dividend per share to $0.45 per share from $0.40. -

Vietnam Forecasts a Tourism Rebound
STR said hotel RevPAR in China was up 58% year over year for the week ended February 25. The number of foreign tourists arriving in Vietnam in February reached 933,000, up 7.1% versus January. Hilton announced it will bring its Doubletree brand to The Orange City for the first time with DoubleTree by Hilton Nagpur . -

Accor Reveals Asia Property Openings for 2023
Accor announced its list of highly anticipated properties that will open in 2023 . Marriott International announced it expects to reach 50 hotels in Thailand by mid-2023, including adding an anticipated eight hotels next year. Hilton Plans More Luxury Rollouts
STR reported China hotel RevPAR for the week ended December 3. RevPAR was down -2.6% on a year-over-year basis while down -40.2% against the same week in 2019. More reports are coming out about China’s decision to roll back Covid-Zero rules . The latest STR report, commissioned by Arabian Travel Market, conducted at the end of September 2022, suggests the GCC region now has over 170,000 hotel rooms under active development. -

Macau’s October Hotel Occupancy Underwhelms
STR reported China hotel RevPAR for the week ended November 26 was up 2.2% year over year. Macau hotels’ had average occupancy in October of 41.8%, up 4.2 percentage points from September. Accor announced details on some of its newest properties across Australia and New Zealand that will be opening in 2023.
