San Francisco Hotels May Defy the Pessimists in 2024

Truist  reported on its visit to  San Francisco  for the Visit Impact Summit. The good news is that the fall 2023 events are showing improvement. Marriott International  announced the completion of a recent redesign and renovation to the 146-room  Courtyard by Marriott Denver Central Park  in Denver, Colorado . Airbnb  stock received a big lift with the announcement of its  inclusion in the S&P 500 .

Truist Talks U.S. Hotel Trends for Rest of Year

Stock market indices experienced gains, with DJIA, Nasdaq, and S&P 500 rising while the 10-year treasury yield decreased. Truist's RevPAR Monitor highlighted positive and negative trends in the hotel industry, including the recovery of group travel and sluggish corporate individual business/transient segment. Various hotel-related announcements were made, including the launch of IHG's Wi-Fi Auto Connect feature, expansion of Saks Fifth Avenue's personal shopping service to luxury resorts, and the opening of new hotels by Hyatt, IHG, Palisociety, and others.

Hyatt Announces Major Mexico Expansion

TD Cowen upped their price targets on Hilton to $142 from $140 and Marriott to $172 from $170. HVS gave their findings from the Hunter Conference . HVS said early 2023 comparisons continue to look favorable with easy comparisons in 1Q due to last year’s Omicron outbreak. Canada’s hotel performance increased from the previous month, with February RevPAR exceeding C$100 for the first time on record

Morgan Stanley Sees Airbnb’s Property Supply Slowing

Morgan Stanley cut their rating on Airbnb to Underweight from Equal Weight, slashing its target price to $80 from $100. Marriott International announced plans to introduce more than 35 luxury hotels in 2023 to its portfolio of luxury brands. STR reported US lodging data for the week ended 12/3. Hotel RevPAR was up 11.7% year over year while up 1.2% versus 2019.

Early September RevPAR up 30% YoY

Equity investors were once again willing to give the Federal Reserve Board the benefit of the doubt on the 0.75% rate hike today but then Fed Chief Powell held a press conference and it got ugly pretty quickly. STR reported US lodging data for the week ended 9/17. US hotel RevPAR was up 30.6% year over year. RevPAR was up 12.7% versus the same week in 2019. A group of hotel franchisees has filed a lawsuit against IHG Hotels and Resorts , claiming a cyber attack on its booking system earlier this month cost them millions of dollars in lost revenue, according to various news sources.

New Hotel Fees Are on the Way

The  DJIA  ended Friday with a gain of 377 points while  Nasdaq  was up 250, the  S&P 500  rose 61 points and the  10-year treasury yield  was up .03 to 3.32%. Lodging stocks were modestly higher. USA Today published a story, actually a prediction that new hotel fees may be popping up . The St. Joe Company and InterMountain Management, LLC announced the commencement of construction on a new hotel in Panama City Beach, FL .
