Hilton beat estimates and cut guidance, and seemed to have a report that was accepted more than Marriott ’s.  The company has raised their net room growth target for the year and it repurchased shares this quarter.

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts' first quarter results exceeded expectations, with stock buybacks increasing despite a hostile bid from Choice Hotels, maintaining a record growth pipeline for the 15th consecutive quarter.

Wyndham had their typical quarter, but WH did say fighting off CHH is going to cost them about $75 million, while Hyatt gave a late-night press release that stated their 4Q results would be delayed because they have not finalized accounting relating to ALG’s Unlimited Vacation Club.

Several properties announced upcoming renovations or management changes. RobertDouglas managed a $60 million sale of three properties; Cronheim Hotel Capital refinanced Hotel Phillips in Kansas City. Key personnel changes occurred at Valor Hospitality Partners and the Rosewood Hotel Group .

Hotel industry updates: Canadian hotel RevPAR exceeds C$100 for third consecutive month, with Manitoba and Vancouver leading in occupancy rates. Renovations and expansions: Knoxville, Tennessee plans to add 350 hotel rooms, while a $12 million extended-stay hotel is set to open in Maryland Heights, Missouri. BofA Securities initiated coverage on Marriott Vacations with a Neutral rating and a $180 price target. The Wall Street Journal published an article on how hotel companies are stepping up efforts to lure competitors’ hotels to their own brands. The article referenced Hilton’s new Spark by Hilton brand. We had heard those concerns about upcoming maturities from Service Properties Trust when we were positive about their resumption of the previous dividend, giving them an 11% yield at the time.

After 25 consecutive months of year-over-year declines, U.S. hotel construction increased slightly in December. Wells Fargo cut their price target on Airbnb to $130 from $165. They maintained their Overweight rating. STR said US hotel RevPAR the week ended 1/14 was up 33.1%. RevPAR was up 9.4% versus the same week in 2019.

Data from Tourism Western Australia shows Singapore is now the number one source of foreign visitors, with Singaporeans accounting for 24% of all international arrivals.
