Tokyo’s Domestic Tourism Rebounds to 2019 Levels
Tokyo domestic tourism bounced back to pre-pandemic levels in 2022, with 542.67 million Japanese tourists visiting, but foreign tourists declined by about 78% compared to 2019. Macau ‘s hotel industry showed significant recovery in June 2023, with an 89% average occupancy rate, and daily room rates increased by over 100% year over year. Beyond Stay , an Indian hotel chain, raised funds in a Pre Series A investment round to expand its presence in new locations and improve its technology infrastructure. -

Saudi Arabia Signs to Get IHG, Accor and Rotana Hotels
STR reported China hotel data for the week ended May 6. Hotel RevPAR in China was up 140.9% year over year. The South China Morning Post said Macau’s casinos are still struggling with finding labor as hotel rooms stay shut and the resorts are unable to fully satiate the booming demand from mainland China tourists . Araiya Hotels and Resorts and Kamakhya Hospitality Services Private Limited announced plans for a new urban resort Soul by Araiya, Dharamshala, A Kamakhya Hotel , anticipated to open in Q4 2023. -

Western Australia Sees Surge of Singapore Visitors
Data from Tourism Western Australia shows Singapore is now the number one source of foreign visitors, with Singaporeans accounting for 24% of all international arrivals. The Ascott Ltd. has launched Citadines Connect in Lebuh Noordin, Georgetown, Penang , a hotel situated in a two-story pre-war building. Mohegan’s Inspire Entertainment Resort , under development in Incheon, South Korea , signed a management agreement with Hanwha Hotel & Resorts for the operation of five-star hotel towers in the property. -

Sydney Hotel ADR Highest Since February 2018
STR said Sydney’s monthly hotel performance reached a pandemic-era high, according to preliminary September 2022 data from STR. Singapore international visitor arrivals continue to be strong but The Business Times said the momentum appears to have slowed down in recent months. InterContinental Sydney announced the completion of its extensive renovation program to welcome the hotel’s next chapter. -

Trip.com Says China Summer Bookings 20% Higher Than 2019
STR reported China hotel RevPAR the week ended September 17 fell -11.5% year over year. When compared with the same week in 2019, China hotel RevPAR was down -40.1% Despite STR reporting week after week for the past several months that China hotel RevPAR has plunged again, Trip.com said hotel reservations in China surpassed pre-pandemic levels since late June . Hyatt Hotels Corporation announced the opening of Hyatt Place Bharuch . This is the second Hyatt Place hotel in Gujarat and the sixth Hyatt Place hotel in in India. -

China Locks Down Part of Tibetan Capital
China has locked down part of Tibet’s capital following reports of a Covid-19 outbreak that grew from four to 22 cases on Monday. Waning Covid Spurs Some YoY Growth in China
STR said things really improved in China following the belief that the Covid outbreaks were over. Hotel RevPAR for the week ended July 30 th in China was up 8.5% year over year while down only -10.3% versus the same week in 2019. Travelers from Japan, Taiwan and Macau will be temporarily allowed to enter South Korea without a visa this month. Baring Private Equity Asia announced its affiliated real estate funds completed the acquisition of the Sydney Hilton hotel for A$530 million.
