Japan’s Inbound Tourism Surges Thanks to Gulf Countries

China hotel RevPAR increased by 27.9% year over year and by 13.7% when compared to 2019. Japan experienced a resurgence in inbound tourism, with GCC countries leading the way, and June 2023 saw 72% of the visitor numbers compared to June 2019. Several hotels, including W Sydney , W Macao Studio City , and The Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel , have announced openings and renovations to cater to the recovering travel demand. Additionally, CapitaLand Ascott Trust signed a Memorandum of Understanding for acquiring lodging assets in the UK, Ireland, and Indonesia.

Hotel Recovery Is Uneven Worldwide

STR’s global report reveals positive RevPAR growth in most markets, with notable gains in occupancy, particularly surpassing 2019 levels in half of all markets. Israel, Singapore, Greece, Italy, and Ireland emerge as top performers in terms of RevPAR among countries with over 50,000 rooms, indicating strong tourism and hotel demand. Summer approaches with rising occupancy rates in 40 out of 48 countries , signaling a promising season for the hospitality industry worldwide. However, Vietnam and Saudi Arabia experience significant declines in RevPAR compared to 2019.

Choice Is Pursing Wyndham

The big news was a rumor with the Wall Street Journal reporting Choice Hotels is making a move to acquire Wyndham Hotels & Resorts . Truist upped their price target on Hyatt Hotels to $149 from $145. This follows H’s Investor Day and the tours of Apple Leisure Group resorts. Pebblebrook Hotel Trust gave their monthly update saying for 2Q23, overall demand and profitability trends continue to remain within expectations .

Rosewood to Bring Its Branded Residences to Florida

Rosewood Hotels & Resorts  announced Rosewood Residences Hillsboro Beach , located two miles from both Boca Raton and Pompano Beach, Florida . The Vinoy Resort and Golf Club, Autograph Collection has completed the initial phase of a comprehensive renovation led by Rockwell Group . Simon Property Group purchased the Hampton Inn & Suites at Phillips Place from Phillips Place Hotel Investors for $42 million.
