Morgan Stanley Gets Cautious About U.S. Hotel Companies
The DJIA, Nasdaq, and S&P 500 experienced growth with varied changes in lodging stocks. Morgan Stanley adjusted price targets for numerous lodging companies, including Sunstone Hotels and Host Hotels . Major hospitality companies, such as Selina Hospitality , Whitestone Companies , and Marriott Hilton Head Resort & Spa, announced important business updates including investments, renovations, and acquisitions. EOS Hospitality , Hotel Equities , and Aimbridge Hospitality made key personnel changes. Accor plans to open 1,200 hotels in the next five years, with a RevPAR growth of 15% to 20%. Aimbridge Hospitality will manage the Alliance Palace Aparthotel in Batumi, Georgia. -

Accor highlighted the progress of its branded residences business, with numerous projects under development worldwide, including Dubai, Australia, and South Korea. The Plasencia Group facilitated the sale of The Westin Tampa Bay, and Dan Hansen returned from retirement to lead Hyatt’s new mid-market extended-stay brand, Hyatt Studios, with a significant development pipeline. -

CBRE Raises Hotel Performance Forecast for 2023
STR reported US RevPAR for the week ended May 13 was down -1.3% year over year, possibly impacted by Mother’s Day timing. CBRE is again raising its forecast for hotel performance this year . The company has revised its forecast for 2023 RevPAR to $97.89, up 6.0% YOY and an increase of $0.43 from its previous forecast. NewcrestImage Plans to Acquire 100+ Hotels This Year
NewcrestImage has plans to acquire more than 100 hotels this year , reported CoStar. So far in 2023, the company has finalized its purchase of a 45-hotel portfolio in 11 states. Key International and Shaner Hotels announced the grand opening of the 156-suite SpringHill Suites by Marriott Jacksonville Beach Oceanfront in Florida . Midas Hospitality announced the opening of the 170-room Residence Inn by Marriott , the first hotel to be built in Clayton, Missouri, in 30 years. -

U.S. Fed Slows Tightening, Hotel Investors Set to Act
Citigroup upped their target price on Park Hotels & Resorts to $15 from $13 while maintaining their Neutral rating. They also upped their target price on Pebblebrook Hotel Trust to $16.50 from $15. They also maintained their Neutral rating on PEB. Accor’s private rental brand, onefinestay , has launched monthly stays in New York with 16 homes available to book and many more being added over the coming months. -

60 Percent of Americans More Likely to Stay in Hotels in 2023 Than Last Year
JP Morgan gave their 2023 lodging outlook presentation, saying they see the REITs as relative underperformers versus the C-Corps. They see Wyndham Hotels and Hyatt Hotels as relative out performers within lodging. The DJIA rose 186 points while Nasdaq was up 107, the S&P 500 rose 27 points and the 10-year treasury yield was up .10 to 3.62%. Lodging stocks were higher. Barclays said December lodging RevPAR ended on a strong note, very notable after Pebblebrook Hotel Trust’s guidance cut during the month. -

The DJIA fell 350 points, Nasdaq was down 154, the S&P 500 fell 45 points and the 10-year treasury yield was up .01 to 3.72%. Mizuho cut their price target on Airbnb to $110 from $125. They maintained their Neutral rating on the stock. STR reported US lodging data for the week ended 12/31. US hotel RevPAR was up 4.2% year over year while up 35.6% versus the same week in 2019. -

Lodging Stocks Surge With Broader Market Gains
Let’s go backwards to give you an overview of today’s market. The 10-year treasury yield plunged 0.32 to 3.83%. That is a nearly 8% drop in the yield on a modestly better CPI report. Vacasa reported 3Q results that went over as well with investors as their weak fourth quarter guidance. The LWHA Q3 2022 Major U.S. Hotel Sales Survey includes 119 single asset sale transactions over $10 million which totaled roughly $3.7 billion. -

Selina Plunges on Second Trading Day
Pebblebrook Hotel Trust reported sold 3Q22 earnings, but since they give monthly updates and pre-announced, there was no surprise. While lodging stocks were higher, the action in Selina on Friday was just as ridiculous as on Thursday but in the other direction. While Travel + Leisure’s stock price rebounded a little bit after Thursday’s earnings-induced decline, Credit Suisse lowered the boom on them. -

Business Travel Shows No Sign of a Recession
The DJIA fell another 0.6% on Tuesday, Nasdaq was down 0.1%, the S&P 500 fell 0.5% and the 10-year treasury yield rose to 3.963%, its peak since 2010. Truist reported on a conference call it held with corporate travel data company Tripbam . Takeaways included that any indications of a recession have not yet shown up in business travel bookings and pricing data . Evercore ISI Group upped its rating on Hyatt to Outperform from In Line. Their price target is $100.
