Hilton’s Plans to Double Its Portfolio in Puerto Rico
Hilton announces plans to double its hotel portfolio in Puerto Rico by 2027, with the addition of seven new properties. The expansion will create around 2,100 new jobs and contribute to the island’s economic recovery following the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria in 2017. Hilton’s investment in Puerto Rico’s tourism industry is a sign of the company’s confidence in the island’s potential as a destination for both leisure and business travelers. -

The Earnings Parade Continues
The earnings parade continues with REITs dominating the past 24 hours. PebbleBrook Hotel Trust reported 4Q results that matched their pre-announcement but gave 1Q guidance that was softer than expected. Sunstone Hotel Investors results came in slightly ahead for 4Q with an extra $10 million insurance gain also put in there. Park Hotels reported strong results even with San Francisco continued weakness. PK said group revenue is back to 83% of pre-pandemic levels. -

EF Hutton initiated coverage on Selina Hospitality with a Buy rating and $6.50 price target. STR reported US lodging data for the week ended 12/24. RevPAR was down -0.2% year over year while down -7.6% versus the same week in 2019. Bluegreen Vacation Holdings said they had a total of 3,040,882 shares of Class A Common Stock tendered in their cash tender offer to purchase up to 4.5 million common shares at $25 per share. -

Braemar Hotels & Resorts Inc. reported preliminary portfolio occupancy of approximately 64% for November 2022 with an ADR of approximately $394 resulting in RevPAR of approximately $253. REITs Remain Cautious About Corporate Travel
MCG and INN both were up 6% while SVC and SLNA were up 5% each. SOND fell -5% on the day. Xenia Hotels & Resorts announced its board of directors authorized the repurchase of up to an additional $100 million of the company’s outstanding common shares. With the additional authorization U.S. lodging REIT management teams did express concerns about cracks in demand forming with technology customers soon after recent layoff announcements. -

The DJIA surged 765 points while Nasdaq was up 234, the S&P 500 rose 90 points and the 10 year treasury yield was down .15 to 3.66% The CBRE Hotels Research State of the Union showcases a review of current hotel trends, leading and coincident indicators of hotel demand, and an update on cost pressures and margin flow-through. Nearly all hotels are experiencing staffing shortages , according to a new member survey conducted by the American Hotel & Lodging Association .
