Allegiant Air Delays Opening of Florida Resort

The  DJIA  fell 94 points,  Nasdaq  was down 110, the  S&P 500  fell 27 points and the  10-year treasury yield  was up .01 to 3.89%. The parent of  Allegiant Air  said that damage from Hurricane Ian has caused the company to delay the planned opening of a resort north of Fort Myers, FL at Charlotte Harbor. Royal Investments LLC , the developer of a proposed Downtown hotel in  Louisville, KY , is seeking a new tax increment financing district for the project.

Summer Tourism Spending in U.S. Spikes YoY

The DJIA plunged 630 points on Friday while Nasdaq was down 421, the S&P 500fell 105 points and the 10 year treasury yield jumped .06 to 3.88%. Lodging stocks were lower. Data recently released by the National Travel and Tourism Office showed in August, international visitors spent more than $13.7 billion on travel to, and tourism-related activities within, the U.S. Jefferies lowered their price target on  Hersha Hospitality to $12 from $13 and  Sunstone Hotel Investors  to $11 from $12.

Hurricane Ian's Impact on Florida Hotels

The  DJIA  surged 765 points while  Nasdaq  was up 234, the  S&P 500  rose 90 points and the 10 year treasury yield was down .15 to 3.66%. Raymond James  reported on  hotels impacted by Hurricane Ian ’s decimation of southwest Florida. While Tampa Bay dodged the bullet, Sarasota all the way down took a hit led by Naples, Fort Myers, Sanibel, Captiva, Boca Grande, Venice and Punta Gorda. Aimbridge Hospitality  announces its  international division , Interstate Hotel & Resorts has launched its new corporate identity, formally debuting as the Aimbridge EMEA division.

Business Travel Shows No Sign of a Recession

The  DJIA fell another 0.6% on Tuesday, Nasdaq was down 0.1%, the S&P 500 fell 0.5% and the 10-year treasury yield rose to 3.963%, its peak since 2010. Truist reported on a conference call it held with corporate travel data company Tripbam . Takeaways included that any indications of a recession have not yet shown up in business travel bookings and pricing data . Evercore ISI Group upped its rating on Hyatt to Outperform from In Line. Their price target is $100.

New York City Continues Its Hotel Recovery

The DJIA  fell another 313 points, Nasdaq was down 110, the S&P 500 was down 44 points and if you thought mortgages were high before, the 10-year treasury yield was up another .08 to 3.57%. Playa Hotels & Resorts announced its board of directors reauthorized the repurchase of up to $100 million of the company’s outstanding shares. According to Hodges Ward Elliott's Q2 report , the New York City hospitality sector continues its recovery as travel surges and hotels reopen.

New Hotel Fees Are on the Way

The  DJIA  ended Friday with a gain of 377 points while  Nasdaq  was up 250, the  S&P 500  rose 61 points and the  10-year treasury yield  was up .03 to 3.32%. Lodging stocks were modestly higher. USA Today published a story, actually a prediction that new hotel fees may be popping up . The St. Joe Company and InterMountain Management, LLC announced the commencement of construction on a new hotel in Panama City Beach, FL .

Hotel Business Has Returned to Pre-Pandemic Levels

The  DJIA was up 193, Nasdaq was up 70, the S&P 500 was up 26 points and the 10-year treasury yield was up .03 to 3.29%. According to the D.C. Office of the Chief Financial Officer, the hotel industry in Washington, D.C. , has largely returned to pre-pandemic business and most of that bounce back has come only in recent months. Accor and SHe Travel Club announced a partnership aiming to re-imagine the female travel and hospitality experience.

RevPAR Tracker Sees No Recession-Driven Pullbacks

The DJIA was up 436 points, Nasdaq was up 247, the S&P 500 was up 72 points and the 10-year treasury yield was down .08 to 3.27%. Truist Securities published their RevPAR tracker, saying based on their analysis, they have yet to observe any “recession-driven” pullbacks and see the greatest degree of booking and pricing momentum coming from the corporate group segment. Hotels in the top 25 markets across the U.S. were the hardest hit by the pandemic-induced demand downturn but have come back with a vengeance.

U.S. Lodging Stocks Are in Safe Mode

Ryman Hospitality Properties became the latest lodging REIT to reinstate something more than a token dividend. CBRE Hotels said they are raising their forecast for hotel performance on the heels of industry gains in Q2 2022 and the expectation of slightly positive GDP growth in 2023. Wolfgramm Capital has acquired the Waldorf Astoria Park City hotel in Park City, UT. The property was acquired off-market and as part of an all-cash deal.

The DJIA fell 154 points but Nasdaq was flat while the S&P 500 fell 9 points and the 10-year Treasury yield was up .02 to 3.05%. Citigroup upped its price target on Sunstone Hotels to $12 from $10.50. Morgan Stanley upped its price target on Airbnb to $125 from $100.
