Singapore Is a Regional Recovery Standout

STR’s global bubble chart for October 22 showed Singapore standing out in the Asia Pacific region while noting continued, steady recovery for most of the world. Among the 48 countries with room supply of more than 50,000 hotel rooms, 11 reported occupancy above 75%, one less than the previous 28-day period. Average daily rate was a bit softer as one less country reported US$250 or more. Singapore was the star of AP, joining the top five performing countries on a RevPAR basis, a first for an Asian country in 2022. Grand Prix week was the catalyst, lifting ADR to US$271 for the period. STR said China and Vietnam remain 25% below pre-pandemic levels in occupancy while most other Asia Pacific countries continue to recover from the pandemic slowly.

IHG Hotels & Resorts announced a partnership with Shenzhen Bay Area Urban Construction and Development Co. Ltd. to develop a new luxury and lifestyle hotel, the Regent Shenzhen Bay. The hotel is located in Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters by Shenzhen Bay. Upon completion, it will be the tallest Regent hotel, expected to open in 2028. The hotel will have 175 rooms in three distinctive room types.

The Fullerton Ocean Park Hotel Hong Kong officially opened The Fullerton Spa, offering best-in-class wellness treatments for Hong Kong guests and travelers. The spa is located in the West Tower of The Fullerton Ocean Park Hotel Hong Kong. The spa features four luxury treatment rooms with floor to ceiling windows facing the sea. The facilities include a hot tub, gender-specific vitality pools, sauna and steam rooms. Couples can have a spa experience in a room that features a balcony and private bathtub. The female vitality pool has a sweeping view of the hotel’s infinity pool and the seascape beyond. The Fullerton Ocean Park Hotel Hong Kong is the first hotel spa in Hong Kong to use luxury British skincare brand Bamford’s body treatments.

Minor Hotels’ Avani brand will make its Maldives debut with the opening of Avani+ Fares Maldives Resort in early Q2 2023. The hotel will be located in the Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The resort will be Minor’s sixth property in the country. This will also be the first hotel opening in this area of the Maldives in more than three years. The new-build property will be home to a variety of accommodation options. From beach pool villas and four-bedroom beach pavilions to three-bedroom over-water villas sitting across the island’s large turquoise bay Avani+ Fares is expected to appeal to couples, families and friends with an array of dining, fitness, water sport recreation and pampering spa treatments. The resort will provide easy access to the Hanifaru Bay, Avania house reef and the nearby Fares reef, 600 meters off the shore. The resort will have seven restaurants, in addition to a private beach and in-villa dining. There will be an AvaniFit gym, AvaniSpa and AvaniKids amenities.

Radisson Hotel Group announced the signing of Lewit Hotel Pattaya, a member of Radisson Individuals, marking the brand’s launch in Pattaya, Thailand and the group’s inaugural property on the country’s Eastern Seaboard. The hotel is expected to open in February 2023 and will operate under a brand affiliation agreement with Land Able Co. Ltd. Lewit Hotel Pattaya is a contemporary hotel located less than 10 minutes from Jomtien beach. The 100 room hotel will feature a modern design, all-day restaurant, glass-walled infinity pool with a waterslide and sundeck, and a fitness center. There will be two meeting rooms and a pre-function area.

Chatrium Hospitality’s new Chatrium Grand Bangkok is weeks away from opening. The property from the Sophonpanich family will open on November 28 in the heart of the city’s prime shopping and business area. The 600 key development is owned by City Realty, which is the real estate arm of the family. Investment in the twin-tower hotel and residences project totaled THB 5.5 billion. The Presidential Suite, located on the top floor, is said to already be booked for three years to a multinational executive. Rooms will begin at 46 square meters with the penthouse suite totaling 321 square meters. There will be one, two and three bedroom residences.

Dorchester Collection announced its 11th hotel and first in Asia. The company said they have been selected to manage a hotel within “Torch Tower”, the highest building in Japan, by Mitsubishi Estate Co., Ltd. and Tokyo Century Corporation. The hotel is scheduled to open in 2028. The hotel is a key component of the redevelopment in the heart of Tokyo’s city center. It will be located on the upper floors of Torch Tower, the tallest building in Japan, with the hotel offering panoramic views of Tokyo Bay, the city center as well as of Mt. Fuji. The “SKY HILL” is expected to become the symbol of the hotel and the city itself, an oasis of tranquility, where nature can be enjoyed through all one’s senses, creating a unique experience fused with the vibrancy of the hotel.

Saketkunj Landmark Private Limited, a Gorakhpur-based real estate and hotel development company, signed a franchise agreement with Wyndham Hotels & Resorts for a new hotel development in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh under the Ramada by Wyndham brand. The Ramada by Wyndham Gorakhpur is expected to open in 2025, located on National Highway 24, which connects Gorakhpur in India to Siddharth Nagar/Lumbini in Nepal. The hotel will have a modern façade and will feature 57 contemporary rooms including three suites, a lobby lounge, all day dining restaurant and bar, meeting and event spaces, a business center, wellness areas and an outdoor swimming pool.

Aviyana Private Chalets is considered to be the first five-star with seven-star facility hotel project with the “pick & cook” dining concept in South Asia. The property provides individually designed chalets experience to its clientele. The property is located at a serene hill country in Udispattauwa, Kandy, in Sri Lanka and offers 60 chalets.

Club Med announced new developments launching over the next year. One of those will be the Club Med Kiroro Peak in Hokkaido, Japan, expected to open December 15, 2022. The 400 room Club Med Kiroro is expected to be a four-season mountain resort.
