The Macau Land and Works Bureau said Macau saw seven new hotels open in 2023, providing a total of 1,792 rooms and 1,096 parking spaces. There were also seven hotels under construction as of 4Q23, expected to provide another 3,105 hotel rooms in the future across 142,325 square meters of space. Two of those hotels are located on Cotai and are expected to provide a combined 2,808 rooms while the other five are located on the Macau Peninsula and will provide a total of 297 rooms. Macau’s five-star hotel sector had an average occupancy rate of 91.2% in December, just slightly below the 93.8% in December 2019. The number of operational five-star rooms in Macaualso increased to 27,800 in November, surpassing December 2019’s count of 24,600 rooms. Average room rate in December was MOP1,773. The four-star hotel category had an average 86.5% occupancy rate in December with room inventory at 9,100. Average room rate for four-star hotels in December was MOP999.
Las Vegas Sands’ Marina Bay Sands in Singapore received approval from authorities to develop a fourth tower. The Urban Redevelopment Authoritysaid instead of the 1,000-room hotel previously contemplated, the new tower will have 153,100 square meters of hotel space over 587 rooms and 12,185 square meters of retail space. The integrated resort currently has 1,850 rooms and suites, a total of 581,400 square meters gross floor area and about 74,000 square meters of retail space.
Nai Lert Park Development, a subsidiary of Nai Lert Group in Thailand, announced the vertical completion of the 36-story, urban sanctuary Aman Nai Lert Bangkok. A ceremonial topping-off ceremony was held on the rooftop. The Aman Nai Lert Bangkok building comprises branded residences as well as a luxury hotel, managed by Aman Group, slated for opening in the third quarter of 2024. Aman Nai Lert Bangkok will be home to 39 exclusive private residences alongside the 52-suite Aman Nai Lert Bangkok hotel.
IHG announced its sixth Vignette Collection property in Thailand, enhancing its Luxury and Lifestyle portfolio. The Phuket Nai Yang Beach resort, opening in 2028, is helping the first collection brand as it marches towards its goal of 100 properties in 10 years. Phuket Nai Yang Beach, Vignette Collection will be the third Vignette Collection property with partner Dinso Resort Co. Ltd. The resort, located on the Southern tip of Nai Yang Beach, will offer 115-room and suites with views of the Andaman Sea and nearby wildlife parks. The property will feature eight Presidential Suites, each measuring 200 square meters, four restaurants, a rooftop bar, meeting spaces of more than 480 square meters, a swimming pool, fitness center, and spa.
Swiss-Belhotel International said they expanded their Indonesian presence with the Swiss-Belhotel Airport Yogyakarta. The hotel in Kulon Progo, five minutes from Yogyakarta International Airport, opened on January 21st, the 82nd hotel under the management of Swiss-Belhotel International in Indonesia. The hotel features 167 well-appointed rooms, offering three distinct types to suit various preferences. The Deluxe rooms cover 30 square meters while the family rooms are 58 square meters. The suites span 62 square meters. The soft opening of Swiss-Belhotel Airport Yogyakarta offers various facilities including Swiss Kitchen Restaurant, a lobby lounge, and an outdoor swimming pool on the 10th floor. Other facilities such as a family room and suite, sky lounge and rooftop bar, fitness center, kids corner, and spa will be available in the second quarter of 2024.
The ibis Budget Windsor in Brisbane and adjoining development land have been listed for sale amid strong demand for accommodation investment opportunities in the 2032 Olympics host city. CBRE Hotels have been exclusively appointed to steer the Expressions of Interest campaign for the Brisbane property, situated on an expansive 3,682 square meter site and offers 50 hotel rooms, a breakfast room, reception, and extensive onsite car parking. The campaign follows recent sales of the Inchcolm by Ovolo Hotel Spring Hill, Sofitel Brisbane, and Quest Chermside, all of which were negotiated by CBRE Hotels. The hotel is operated under a hotel management agreement with Accor under the ibis Budget brand but is being offered for sale with vacant possession.
A brand new A$50 million luxury hotel in Gleneig, South Australia’s premier beach, is expected to open later this year. The development by Taplin Group has been years in the making. The 5-star hotel will also feature retail shops and a rooftop bar. Taplin also is developing a residential tower there with over 80 apartments across 12 floors.
Indian Hotels Company said they signed contracts for 32 new hotels in 2023 while opening 18 of them. IHCL now has a total of 285 hotels with an 85-hotel pipeline; their presence is in over 130 locations. In 2023, the Taj brand strengthened its presence in key metro and commercial cities, including Delhi, Cochin, Dhaka, and Bhutan. Vivanta and SeleQtions collectively added 17 hotels while Ginger signed agreements for six new hotels.
IHCL also announced the opening of Ginger Durgapur, Rajbandh. The 55-room hotel is nestled in the heart of Rajbandh, just a brief drive from the airport and key commercial centers. The hotel features Qmin, the signature all-day diner, a welcoming bar, and a state-of-the-art fitness center. The hotel also offers five spacious banquet spaces.
Lemon Tree Hotels Limited said they inaugurated their 12th property in Maharashtra, Keys Lite by Lemon Tree Hotels, Dapoli. The hotel comprises 20 rooms along with standard amenities such as a restaurant, conference room, fitness center, swimming pool, and other public areas. The budget-friendly establishment includes the Keys Café multi-cuisine coffee shop, conference space, fitness center, a swimming pool, bonfire area, and a fruit garden. Dapoli is situated in the South Konkan region of Maharashtra in India.
