Melbourne Hotel Supply Grew 21% Since 2019

Melbourne has experienced a 21% increase in hotel rooms since 2019, with 22 new hotels and a rise in occupancy rates, making it the top city in Australia for interstate overnight trips.
STR reported China hotel data for the week ended July 6. Hotel RevPAR in China was down -15% year over year. The week was up against a +41.5% year-over-year comparable result in 2023. Truist called the results an example of China experiencing "revenge travel" fatigue following the re-opening a year ago. Occupancy for China hotels fell -6.8% for the week, year over year.
Sydney, Australia hotel performance jumped in June driven by the Vivid Drone Show and the Sydney Film Festival. CoStar/STR said hotel occupancy rose 1% year over year to 72.6% while ADR was up 1.5$ to A$243.45. That resulted in a 2.5% rise in RevPAR to A$176.81. Both ADR and RevPAR achieved their highest levels for any June on record in Sydney with the highest occupancy rate for the month recorded on June 8th at 88%, coinciding with the first night of the Drone show and fourth night of the Sydney Film Festival.
