Top-end brand Aman has a new global wellness ambassador, and they don't settle for second rate. Meet tennis superstar Novak Djokovic.

The DJIA rose 484 points while Nasdaq was up 194, the S&P 500 rose 63 points and the 10 year treasury yield was down .01 to 3.70%. Lodging stocks were modestly higher. The only mover of note was to the downside with SHCO falling -7% on the day.

Hyatt Hotels celebrated the groundbreaking of the new Hyatt Studios hotel, the third to be built nationwide, and the first in Virginia. Construction on the new hotel, in Rockingham County, is expected to last until late 2025.

IHG Hotels & Resort’s EVEN Hotels brand announced the opening of EVEN Hotel Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport. Located just 15 minutes from downtown Bozeman, Montana, the 120-room hotel is the latest to feature elements of the brand’s refreshed prototype. With a new design, refreshed restaurant concept and new in-room fitness options inclusive of varying exercise amenities, EVEN Hotel Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport offers guests an enhanced, integrated wellness experience. The property also features a 24/7 market and an athletic studio including an indoor pool and storage spaces.

The Charleston Place, downtown Charleston, South Carolina’s landmark hotel, has unveiled the first phase of its comprehensive $150+ million re-imagination, the transformation of the hotel’s 40,000 square feet of banquet space. The transformation features two new spacious 1,350 square foot meeting rooms, a second set of restrooms, expanded pre-function space, a stunning 1,100 square foot bridal suite, and a new banquet kitchen. The Charleston Place, the flagship property of Beemok Hospitality Collection, offers 433 elegant guestrooms; a world-class spa, fitness center and rooftop pool; plus an exclusive Club Level. The hotel also features five premier food and beverage concepts, complimentary bicycles and a curated collection of retail shops.

RMR Group LLC is looking to build a new mixed-use building in Boston’s West End. The hotel and residential project will encompass three adjacent lots located in Boston’s Bulfinch Triangle neighborhood. If approved, the 40-story mixed-use building would include 300 hotel rooms, 420 residential units, and 30,000 square feet of retail, restaurant and amenity space. There would also be a three-level, below-grade parking garage.

Harry Stinson, owner of the fire-damaged Buffalo Grand Hotel located in Buffalo, New York, hopes to reopen its nearly 500 guestrooms within six months after a multi-million dollar insurance settlement from the fire enabled him to stave off foreclosure. According to Buffalo News, Stinson would not disclose how much he received from Travelers Insurance Co. for his $50 million claim. But it was at least enough to pay off the mortgage and satisfy the $20.44 million debt owed to Visions Hotels, whose WNY Lodging LLC had initiated foreclosure on a pair of loans on the property that it sold to Stinson in July 2018. As a result, Visions and Stinson agreed to end their litigation, and Visions filed in court to withdraw its foreclosure case. Stinson is hoping to keep the Buffalo Grand name, as part of Wyndham’s Registry Collection of upscale, independent hotels.

Red Roof announced the opening of its 700th property, a new build in Jamaica, New York. The 86-room Red Roof PLUS+ Jamaica opened following an investment of more than $20 million. The property is owned by Steven Mendel of RiverBrook Hospitality. The new interior-corridor Red Roof PLUS+ property offers a business center, fitness facility, and paid guest laundry facilities.

Enoch Cree Nation broke ground on the expansion project at the River Cree Resort and Casino in AB, Canada. The $200 million project will be fully funded by the nation. Slated for opening in spring 2027, the new hotel will include an 18-story tower, 240 hotel rooms, 38,000 square feet of event space including a grand ballroom and outdoor space, and a family-friendly pool with two waterslides.

The Hackley Administration Building, which has sat vacant in Muskegon, Michigan since 2020, will soon be a vacation destination highlighting Muskegon’s history. Construction has already begun to turn the building into a 45-room luxury hotel called the Hackley Castle Inn and Suites. While developers aim to bring modern features to the building, many original features will be restored and preserved. Developers are planning to open the hotel in the fall of 2025.

Mojave Resort, a boutique hotel in Palm Desert, California, has opened following renovation work. The facelift was overseen by Practice Hospitality, which has revitalized the property. The resort features 25 guestrooms and suites, a pool, hot tub spa, fire tables and an event lawn.

One of New Mexico’s most famous historic hotels will close its doors in two weeks. Cimarron’s St. James Hotel, owned by the Funk family, will shut down on September 17th. The property is currently on the market for interested buyers who are committed to preserving its unique legacy.

Hunter Hotel Advisors announced the sale of the Hampton Inn Norfolk Naval Base. A regional owner and operator purchased the property. HHA represented the institutional seller. The four-story, 117-key Hampton Inn Norfolk Naval Base sits adjacent to Naval Station Norfolk and features an indoor pool, fitness center and business center.

Europe Highlights

Aman announced Novak Djokovic as its first Global Wellness Advisor. Entering a multi-year partnership, Djokovic will bring his decades of success to the fore, enhancing Aman’s guest wellness offering through exclusively designed programs and events. In addition, he will have an advisory role with Aman Essentials, specifically focusing on future product development and extensions of the brand, as relates to wellbeing. The partnership with Aman will grow and develop year on year, with early plans across the brand’s properties including, but not limited to, special events for Aman Club and Residence owners; annual hosted wellness retreats; and specially curated programs available to guests year-round.

Dorsa Holding Group and operator Room00 Group purchased 100% of the shares of TOC Hostels from Ignacio Catalan and Salvador Torrens for approximately €20 million, according to a press release from Room00, which said the deal will give it 1,360 rooms in operation and 900 in construction, most of which are in Spain and Portugal.

A North Wales hotel has been bought by a hospitality and brewery chain. JW Lees has snapped up The Craigside Hotel on Llandudno’s Little Orme from Whitbread plc. The purchase was handled by Christie & Co. The new owners have exciting plans to refurbish and reposition the hotel in the market. The purchase includes both the Premier Inn and Brewers Fayre element of the Craigside Inn.
