Oravel Stays Completes G6 Acquisition

OYO has acquired G6 Hospitality from Blackstone and will focus on growing and enhancing the Motel 6 and Studio 6 brands through technology integration, property upgrades, and expanded distribution, while maintaining existing agreements and leadership changes.

Tui is targeting Asia for growth as they plan to double the number of own brand hotels across the region. The group currently has 18 hotels in six countries in Asia with resorts in the Maldives, Thailand and Sri Lanka part of the Tui portfolio. The first new projects will be with the Tui Blue brand as well as the Tui Suneo option for price-conscious holidaymakers scheduled to open in China in 2025. A new build project is planned for the The Mora brand in Bali. Hotels were opened in China and Malaysia for the first time this year together with expansion into Vietnam with Tui Blue Berawa. Tui is also represented in the Thai capital for the first time with its own Tui Blue Maduzi Bangkok. Further new openings planned for 2025 will be in collaboration with local partners under management or franchise agreements.

Adelaide’s northern suburbs has its first premium hotel following the opening of the $70 million Crowne Plaza at Mawson Lakes. The 155 room hotel is part of a seven story development on the corner of Elder Smith Road and Main Street, featuring a mix of king and twin share rooms, suites, adjoining rooms and kitchenettes with in-room dining options, 24 hour reception, conference and events spaces and a fitness center. The hotel has a 120 seat restaurant and the Aviator Bar. Melbourne-based property developer Pelligra Group took over the hotel development in 2021 after the previous developer suspended construction at the site in 2018 amid a Consumer and Business Services investigation. In a joint venture with One7, Pelligra had been planning a Holiday Inn & Suites hotel before changing the design for the more upscale Crowne Plaza brand.

Indian Hotels Company Limited is continuing its Ginger hotel brand expansion in India with an opening in Goa’s Candolim coastal village. The 262 key Ginger Candolim has the portfolio over 100 Ginger hotels. The hotel introduces the brand’s signature Qmin restaurant and bar. The hotel’s amenities include a swimming pool and a dedicated play area for children along with more than 4,500 square feet of meeting and banquet spaces.

Royal Orchid Hotels Ltd. announced the grand opening of Regenta Place Dalhousie, marking its 9th property in Himachal Pradesh, further strengthening its presence in Northern India. The property includes 43 rooms, including premium suites, superior and deluxe rooms plus a luxurious spa, infinity pool, rooftop bar, all-day dining with an all-day multi-cuisine restaurant and bar.

Hyatt Hotels Corporation announced the opening of Hyatt Centric City Centre Kuala Lumpur. The 312 room hotel is located a stone’s throw away from KL’s Twin Towers, around the corner from KL Tower. The 21 floors include the 312 rooms and suites, open-air infinity saltwater pool overlooking the city, a fitness center and three dining experiences.

Sri Lanka’s first sevent-star luxury hotel Aviyana with Rs. 10 billion investment is set to open in March. Aviyana Ceylon will launch in part, with approximately 10-15 chalets out of a total of 60 by March 2025 as the world’s eighth 7 star luxury hotel. Construction is currently 70% complete. The remaining chalets will be sold to investors. The common facilities are 24 acres of land, of which 12 are utilized for the chalets and the entertainment areas, 100x30 foot natural infinity pool, club house, gym and spa, artificial lake, organic farm and spice garden, world-class restaurant and bar, conference hall, state of the art movie theater and helipad.

The new Fusion Resort & Villas Da Nang have fully opened. With that comes the 2,800 square meter Maia Spa, one of the largest of its kind in Vietnam, including a heated indoor pool, infrared saunas, steam baths, fully equipped fitness center and a dedicated yoga studio. The 15 hectare resort features 85 elegant villas ranging from one to five bedrooms. The upscale villas are complemented by a 157 room hotel tower which includes 29 rooms with exclusive, private sky pools offering something akin to an elevated villa experience.

Hopewell Holdings is banking on a new hotel venture to drive success with more tourist arrivals from mainland China and Southeast Asia as well as rising demand for big conferences in Hong Kong. Hopewell is one of the largest commercial landlords in the Wai Chai district. The Hopewell Hotel, located next to the Hopewell Centre on Kennedy Road, will provide 1,000 rooms with over 70,000 square feet of column-free meeting and convention spaces. Despite that, 89 year old Hopewell chairman Gordon Wu Yuing-sheung believes it could take about 12 years for the property to break even. Land and construction costs will total about HK15 billion. Wu believes the high costs will keep others from developing competing facilities. Hopewell Hotel has already hosted four conventions in November, ahead of its official launch.

Oravel Stays, parent company of OYO, announced it completed the previously announced acquisition of G6 Hospitality, parent company of the Motel 6 and Studio 6 brands, from Blackstone Real Estate for $525 million. OYO plans to accelerate the growth of G6 Hospitality’s operations, focusing on technology integration, property upgrades and market expansion. OYO plans to add over 150 hotels in 2025 as part of the Motel 6 & Studio 6 brands. OYO said they will maintain and strengthen the Motel 6 and Studio 6 brands. All existing franchise agreements, including exclusivity rights, will be honored. Technological improvements will include enhanced mobile and web booking experience and options of dynamic pricing capabilities that can optimize rates across room types throughout the year. In the distribution and revenue growth area, OYO plans to develop a broader network of distribution partners beyond traditional online travel agencies which strengthening direct booking channels and corporate booking demand. Sonal Sinha has been appointed as CEO while Tina Burnett will remain as Chief Development Officer as well as several others at G6. Nishant Boorla & Anuj Ladha were named as the heads of Brand Performance while Manas Mehrotra is Central Operations Head. Subhankar Choudhary is Head – Revenue, E-Commerce & Sales. Leaving G6 will be former CEO and President Julie Arrowsmith, CFO Perry Ping, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer Farah Bhayani, Adam Cannon as Chief Brand Officer, Brent Haines as Chief Information Officer and Mary Fregia as Chief Human Resources Officer.

Minor International has offered to buy out minority shareholders of Spain’s Minor Hotels Europe & Americas. The group, which already owns 95.9% of MHEA shares, offered to pay 6.37 euros per share for the stake it does not own, with an aim to delist Minor Hotels, which was previously known as NH Hotels. The price represents a 38% premium over MHEA’s closing price last Friday.
