Macau hotel occupancy was up by 5.1 percentage points year-on-year to 89.1% in the first six months of 2025. With fewer hotel rooms, that increase was accomplished despite a decline in the actual number of hotel guests by 1% to 7.2 million. Mainland China hotel guests rose by 0.8% to 5.4 million, while the number of international guests rose by 8.6% to 590,000. The big decline was in guests from Hong Kong, down by 8.5% to 879,000 according to Macau’s Statistics and Census Service. The average occupancy rate overall rose by 5.6 percentage points in June alone, reaching 88.4%. For the quarter, five-star hotels reached 92.5% occupancy, up 6.6 percentage points; four-star hotels saw occupancy rise 2.7 points to 83.1%, while three-star hotels were up 4.4 points to 85.4%.
