Macau’s Statistics and Census Service said Macau recorded approximately 3.65 million visitor arrivals in January 2026, unchanged year-on-year, which is pretty good considering the Lunar New Year timing. Overnight visitors were down 6.6% to 1.39 million, made up for by the lower-spending same-day visitors, which were up 4.6% to 2.25 million. Visitors from Mainland China declined 1.6% to about 2.71 million. International arrivals were up 15.5% to 278,000. The average occupancy rate stood at 91.6% in January, up 0.7 percentage points year-on-year. Five-star hotels had 95.9% occupancy, up 2.4 percentage points. Four-star and three-star hotels posted occupancy rates of 85.2% and 85.7%, respectively, both down from January 2025. The number of hotel guests fell 1.7% year-on-year. International hotel guests rose 26.6% to 127,000, but that could not offset the 5.3% drop in Mainland Chinese guests, not surprising given the Lunar New Year timing.
