In the Q3 2024 China Hotel Construction Pipeline Trend Report by Lodging Econometrics, at the end of the quarter, China's total hotel construction pipeline reached 3,853 projects with 703,312 rooms up 4% by projects and 3% by rooms year-over-year. At the close of the third quarter, there are 2,793 projects/505,106 rooms under construction in China, up 5% by projects and rooms YOY. Projects scheduled to start construction in the next 12 months stand at 348 projects/60,095 rooms, down a slight 2% by projects and 8% by rooms YOY. Projects in early planning are up 1% by projects and down1% by rooms YOY, reaching 712 projects with 138,111 rooms. The upscale chain scale ended with 1,026 projects/224,688 rooms. The upper midscale chain scale has 1,230 projects/188,280 rooms. Brand conversion totals in China are at 174 hotels/29,893 rooms. Construction starts closed the quarter at 241 projects/39,138 rooms. Cities in China with the largest pipelines, at the Q3 close, are Chengdu with 152 projects/27,424 rooms; Shanghai with 132 projects/25,081 rooms; Guangzhou with 127 projects/25,763 rooms; Hangzhou with 103 projects/20,356 rooms; and Xi'an with 91 projects/16,303 rooms. Through the third quarter of 2024, 662 new hotels/91,463 rooms have opened in China. The LE forecast for new hotel openings expects another 326 hotels with 53,654 rooms to open in the fourth quarter. LE analysts expect new hotel openings in China to rise in 2025, with 1,101 new hotels/176,140 rooms forecast to open. In 2026, analysts expect another 799 new hotel openings with 150,069 rooms.
ONYX Hospitality Group announced an agreement to manage Amari The Tide Bangsaen, set to reveal its new look in the second quarter of 2025 in the Chonburi Province of Thailand. ONXY signed the management agreement with Five Leader Group Co., Ltd. Bangsaen is located 45 minutes from Pattaya city, with the property located directly opposite Bangsaen Beach. The hotel will offer 154 rooms, including deluxe rooms and suites. Medium to large meeting rooms will be available for events and F&B options will include the Amaya Restaurant and Aloha Beach Café. There is also a signature spa, swimming pool, fitness center and a kids club.
Perth's first and only beachside hotel high rise, Rendezvous Perth Scarborough is unveiling a multi-million dollar investment by owners Far East Orchard. The rolling two-year refurbishment program will see 330 hotel rooms refreshed, upgrades to the hotel's front entrance and conference space with additional works planned for the hotel's iconic swimming pool, and public areas.
A site approved for a 58-key eco-lodge on one of Australia's most popular tourist routes has been put on the market. The 48.5ha site is 6km from the 12 Apostles on the Great Ocean Road in southern Victoria and carries approval for an eco-lodge designed by GHD Woodhead. CBRE Hotels is managing the sale via an expressions of interest campaign due to end on December 4. Plans for the $9 million resort comprise 14 two-bedroom cabins and six three-bedroom cabins alongside facilities including indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a day spa, and conference facilities. Amenities would include a reception area, function rooms, staff accommodation and multiple dining venues.
Rydges Port Macquarie, located on Hastings River, has concluded renovations. This includes all guestrooms, of which there are nine types, and the hotel lobby. The hotel offers seven conferencing and event spaces, including a waterfront ballroom, all equipped with in-house AV, plus Zebu Bar and Restaurant. Additional amenities include a heated pool and spa, close to the CBD which has waterfront bars, boutiques, theaters, and galleries.
SKYE Suites Green Square, in Sydney's inner-east, has rebranded to One Global Resorts with a $20 million conference center to open in mid-2025. The rebrand comes on the back of major refurbishment works to the hotel's interior, including its 90 premium serviced apartments across seven levels. One Global Capital said they are embarking on developing a new hotel chain beginning with SKYE Suites Green Square, followed by their site at Macquarie Park, with more planned. By mid-2025, the One Global Resort Green Square will feature the new 650-seat One Global Conference Center. The hotel offers a range of apartment types, including studios, and one to three-bedroom apartments.
The Langham will open in Kuala Lumpur's central business district in 2027. The new hotel will be part of the Oxley Towers KLCC complex and will be a joint venture led by Langham Hospitality Group and Artisan Hospitality, a subsidiary of Singapore's Oxley Holdings. The hotel will have 189 guest rooms and suites, a sky pool, fitness center and health and wellness offerings. Dining options will include an outpost of The Langham, Hong Kong's three-starred Michelin-starred Cantonese restaurant T'ang Court.
South Korea's DL Group is putting some hotels on the market to raise 650 billion won (US$461.8 million). They are selling more of their non-core business and will further their exit from the industry. Glad Hotels & Resorts Co., the group's subsidiary, is set to collect offers from potential buyers, including alternative asset managers and hotel operators, to sell three hotels, as well as the operation rights of one branch by the end of this month. Glad Hotels & Resorts aims to sell a tourist hotel on Jeju Island in South Korea, and two business hotels in Seoul – one in the capital's financial hub Yeouido and the other in the central upscale and modern district of Gangnam, as well as the operation rights of a hotel in Mapo, next to Yeouido. The company plans to consider various sales options, such as selling real estate, hotel management rights and the Glad brand. The group is poised to exit the hotel business upon completion of the sale of the three hotels and operation rights.

COMO Hotels and Resorts has appointed Peter Nilsson as Managing Director for the Maldives, where he will oversee COMO Cocoa Island and COMO Maalifushi. Prior to joining COMO, Nilsson was CEO at Banwa Private Island, an exclusive estate in Palawan, Philippines.
