Macau Arrivals Highest Since June Outbreak

Macau saw 65,677 visitor arrivals over the weekend in the first two days of the National Day Golden Week. Marriott International announced their JW Marriott brand opened the JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort Suites, an all-suite luxury retreat nestled in a serene beachside setting on southern Thailand’s Andaman coast. Hilton Grand Vacations announced the grand opening ceremony for The Beach Resort Sesoko, a Hilton Club.

U.S. Lodging Higher as Markets Rise

The  DJIA  surged 765 points while  Nasdaq  was up 234, the  S&P 500  rose 90 points and the 10 year treasury yield was down .15 to 3.66% The  CBRE Hotels Research State of the Union  showcases a review of current hotel trends, leading and coincident indicators of hotel demand, and an update on cost pressures and margin flow-through. Nearly all hotels are experiencing staffing shortages , according to a new member survey conducted by the  American Hotel & Lodging Association .

New Maldives Premium Properties in Pipeline for 2023 Openings

Enova Estates SL  issued a press release on  new resorts expected to open in 2023 in the Maldives . They currently have over 160 island resorts. The Lee family has offered a takeover bid for Mulpha International Bhd, a continuation of a trend of privatizations and buyouts of public listed companies in Malaysia. Marriott International announced the signing of an agreement with Yuexiu Property to bring its Ritz-Carlton brand to downtown Wuhan in China.

Hurricane Ian's Impact on Florida Hotels

The  DJIA  surged 765 points while  Nasdaq  was up 234, the  S&P 500  rose 90 points and the 10 year treasury yield was down .15 to 3.66%. Raymond James  reported on  hotels impacted by Hurricane Ian ’s decimation of southwest Florida. While Tampa Bay dodged the bullet, Sarasota all the way down took a hit led by Naples, Fort Myers, Sanibel, Captiva, Boca Grande, Venice and Punta Gorda. Aimbridge Hospitality  announces its  international division , Interstate Hotel & Resorts has launched its new corporate identity, formally debuting as the Aimbridge EMEA division.

Cambodia Says It Will Hit Pre-Pandemic Levels in 2026

The number of international tourists to Cambodia  is expected to reach the pre-Covid-19 pandemic level in 2026. Indian Hotels  and other hospitality firms in India have said they are eyeing price rate hikes. IHCL recently went back on that, saying the price hikes will have to wait until November. Hyatt Hotels Corp  announced the opening of Hyatt Centric Sector 17 Chandigarh, marking the debut of the Hyatt Centric brand there.

Report: Hotel Rates Will Increase Worldwide in 2023

A new  American Express Global Business Travel report  suggests  hotel rates worldwide will increase again in 2023 thanks to pent up demand for in person meetings. Choice Hotels  International announced the opening of the first  Everhome Suites hotel, debuting in  Corona, California . HN Capital Partners  announced the acquisition of the historic  Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek , an iconic century old former private estate in Dallas.

Strong Recovery Indicators for Remainder of 2022

The  DJIA  dropped 1.54%,  Nasdaq  fell 2.84%, the  S&P 500  declined 2.11% and the  10-year treasury yield  rose slightly, to 3.76%. After an outstanding summer of travel,  Amadeus’  Agency360 and Demand360 data sources are showing  strong recovery indicators for the remainder of 2022  and evidence of growing traveler confidence as the sector looks towards 2023. Service Properties Trust  announced it entered into a purchase and sale agreement to sell  16 Marriott branded hotels  totaling 2,155 keys for $137.3 million.

China RevPAR Improves YoY But Falls Short of 2019

STR reported China lodging data for the week ended 9/24. Hotel RevPAR was up 5.1% year over year. When compared with the same week in 2019, RevPAR was down -21.5%. The St. Regis Jakarta is set to debut on November 10, 2022, within Jakarta, Indonesia’s Golden Triangle District. Club Med said their three Japan properties are ready to welcome back guests. That includes the brand new Club Med Kiroro Peak, opening in December 2022.

The markets brightened their mood somewhat on Wednesday. The  DJIA rose 1.89%, Nasdaq was up 2.05%, the S&P 500 climbed 1.96% and the 10-year treasury yield had its steepest one-day drop since March 2009. STR reported US lodging data for the week ended 9/24. Hotel RevPAR was up 30.3% year over year while up 13.7% when compared with the same week in 2019. Dajia Insurance Group Co has put three hotels in the US up for sale, hoping to generate US$1.3 billion to take advantage of an expected surge in leisure travel and resort business.

Standard International Seeks APAC Expansion

Dajia Insurance Group Co has put three hotels in the US up for sale, hoping to generate US$1.3 billion to take advantage of an expected surge in leisure travel and resort business. U.S. hotel operator Standard International is betting on Thailand’s post-pandemic tourism recovery. Bloomberg said Standard is hoping to power an expansion in Asia that will see it open properties in popular and less-explored destinations. The new $340 million dual-tower Docklands development in Melbourne, Australia will include a huge rooftop infinity pool, spanning 35 meters when it opens in 2026.
