India’s Hotel Demand Is Outpacing Supply
An HVS Anarock report on the Indian hotel market shows the number of hotel rooms in tier-II and tier-III cities increased to 38% of the total inventory at the end of 2022 from 33% four years ago. Ascott to Double Over Five Years
STR said China hotel RevPAR for the week ended April 15, was up 155.1% year over year. Marriott International announced it signed agreements with Vinpearl for an additional seven hotels and resorts in Vietnam , comprising more than 2,500 rooms. The Ascott Limited , a unit of CapitalLand Investment Limited, has achieved its target to secure 160,000 units by 2023 with the signing of over 4,000 units in 1Q this year . -

Tokyo Hotel Average Daily Rates Beat Pre-Pandemic Numbers for Two Straight Months
STR said the reopening of Japan’s international border several months ago, along with the National Travel Support campaign, have helped boost Tokyo’s hotel average daily rate beyond pre-pandemic comparables for two straight months. Nikkei reported that Japan will launch a project to encourage global hotel operators to open luxury properties in national parks as early as in 2024. Macau Tops Forbes Travel Guide’s Five-Star List

Relaxed Covid Restrictions Buoy Singapore, Taiwan and Australia
Singapore signaled an end to the Covid-19 era restrictions , removing nearly all remaining mask rules as well as all border restrictions for arrivals who are not fully vaccinated. All travel restrictions for residents of Hong Kong and Macau wishing to go to Taiwan will be lifted on February 20, three years after they were imposed. STR said Australia’s hotel performance turned a massive corner during the first half of 2022 as the Omicron wave subsided and governments relaxed travel restrictions around the country. -

According to Lodging Econometrics’ Q4 Construction Pipeline Trend Report for the Asia Pacific region , excluding China , the region’s total construction pipeline stands at 1,903 projects/404,222 rooms, up 5% by projects and 2% by rooms YOY. South Korea’s government will remove its entry restrictions for short-term travelers from China . Waning Covid Spurs Some YoY Growth in China
STR said things really improved in China following the belief that the Covid outbreaks were over. Hotel RevPAR for the week ended July 30 th in China was up 8.5% year over year while down only -10.3% versus the same week in 2019.
