Ascott to Double Over Five Years
STR said China hotel RevPAR for the week ended April 15, was up 155.1% year over year. Marriott International announced it signed agreements with Vinpearl for an additional seven hotels and resorts in Vietnam , comprising more than 2,500 rooms. The Ascott Limited , a unit of CapitalLand Investment Limited, has achieved its target to secure 160,000 units by 2023 with the signing of over 4,000 units in 1Q this year . -

Banyan Tree to Double by 2025
Banyan Tree Group , closing out the 2022 fiscal year with 63 properties across its global portfolio of 10 hospitality brands, expects to get to 113 hotels by the end of 2025 . Radisson Hotel Group announced the opening of Lewit Hotel Pattaya , a member of Radisson Individuals in the beach resort town of Pattaya. The grand opening of Ember Hotel , a boutique lifestyle hotel located at Khao San Road in Bangkok, Thailand was announced. -

Japan Is Nearly Recovered But Thailand Still Lags
The Tourism Authority of Thailand expects the country’s tourism sector to generate up to 2.4 trillion baht in revenue this year, or 80% of earnings in 2019 . STR said Japan’s recovery is moving in the right direction as the current central administration continues to focus on growing both domestic and inbound tourism. The director of the Macao Government Tourism Office said the booking rate for Macau hotels over Easter was currently at between 50% and 60%. -

Relaxed Covid Restrictions Buoy Singapore, Taiwan and Australia
Singapore signaled an end to the Covid-19 era restrictions , removing nearly all remaining mask rules as well as all border restrictions for arrivals who are not fully vaccinated. All travel restrictions for residents of Hong Kong and Macau wishing to go to Taiwan will be lifted on February 20, three years after they were imposed. STR said Australia’s hotel performance turned a massive corner during the first half of 2022 as the Omicron wave subsided and governments relaxed travel restrictions around the country. -

Lockdowns and Testing in Shanghai, Wuhan and Macau
Shanghai ordered mass testing of all 1.3 million residents amidst another lockdown, Wuhan locked down 900,000 people for at least five days, while in Macau the MGM Cotai casino resort was locked down after a dealer tested positive. The hospitality sector in India is looking at rapidly adding managed hotels to its portfolio. Hong Kong -based Langham Hospitality Group has launched an upper midscale brand called Ying’nFlo . -

China RevPAR Up YOY
STR reported China hotel RevPAR for the week ended September 3 rd . Year over year, hotel RevPAR was up 19.3%, still up against easier year-over-year comps. The DuGhassan Aboud Group has acquired Sydney, Australia’s Rydges Sydney Harbour Hotel for approximately $100 million. Radisson Hotel Group announced the continued expansion of their brand footprint with Radisson Resort & Suites Phuket . -

Singapore Leads Way on Room Cost
Bloomberg reported that hotel rooms in Singapore are now the most expensive in almost a decade. Radisson Hotel Group said they are aiming to accelerate growth across Thailand. The Tongsai Bay, the first five-star luxury hotel to be built on Koh Samui, has embarked on an innovative refurbishment and development program to celebrate its 35th anniversary as a luxury eco-haven.
