Marriott Announces New Properties in Malaysia and India

STR reported on China hotel data for the week ended August 31. China Hotel RevPAR was up 8.3% for the week on a year-over-year basis. The week was up against a +30.7% comp in the year-ago week. For the week of August 31, occupancy was up 11% while ADR was down -2.4%, both on a year-over-year basis.
Marriott International announced the opening of the Penang Marriott Complex, the company's 50th property in Malaysia. The complex comprises three hotels – Penang Marriott Hotel, Marriott Executive Apartments, Penang, and Marriott Residences Penang. This is the first in Malaysia to include three brands within the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio under one roof. The complex is situated along a prime, seafront location in George Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Penang Marriott Hotel includes 223 rooms, a variety of dining and beverage serving experiences, The Greatroom Lobby and Bar socializing element, a 24-hour fitness center, a steam room and an outdoor infinity swimming pool. Marriott Executive Apartments Penang offers 90 suites, featuring a mix of one-bedroom and two-bedroom options. Marriott Residences Penang offers 302 units with amenities, including a 45-meter infinity pool, a communal Clubhouse, gym and a unique herb garden.
In India, Marriott has revealed plans to shift six Samhi Hotels properties from franchise agreements to managed operations. By October 2024, the Fairfield by Marriott Mahindra World City, Four Points by Sheraton Chennai OMR, Four Points by Sheraton Jaipur, Four Points by Sheraton Pune, Fairfield by Marriott Hyderabad and Fairfield by Marriott Ahmedabad will complete their transitions.
Hyatt Hotels Corporation announced the opening of Hyatt Place Aurangabad Airport. The hotel marks the second Hyatt Place hotel in the state of Maharashtra and the 11th Hyatt Place hotel in the country. It also is the seventh Hyatt-branded property in the State of Maharashtra. The 150-room hotel is located near both Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Airport and the city's economic zones such as Shendra MIDC and Waluj MIDC. Facilities include multiple dining options, over 50,000 square feet of specialized event and meeting spaces, a fitness center and a swimming pool. The hotel has five suites, each with a balcony, one King Suite and includes their own private outdoor space with a pool view.
Radisson Hotel Group announced the signing of Glenview Resort in Kasauli in Himachal Pradesh in India, expanding its portfolio to 10 hotels in the state. The resort is set to open in the fourth quarter of 2024 and will offer a variety of accommodations, including king rooms, twin rooms and suites. It will feature a ballroom, outdoor event spaces and two meeting rooms for special occasions and business events. Guests will have access to a swimming pool, gym, spa and dining options, including an all-day restaurant, rooftop dining, and a bar. The resort is located in the heart of Kasauli, a one to two-hour drive from Chandigarh International Airport. Radisson Hotel Group currently operates five hotels and resorts in Himachal Pradesh under various brands with new properties coming up in Shimla, Manali and Chail.
The Leela Palace Bengaluru unveiled its latest renovations, introducing Terrace Suites and The Maharaja Ballroom. The property also has renovated rooms as part of this transformation. The MICE venue is spread across 10,000 square feet with the big attraction being a nine-foot chandelier. The Maharaja Ballroom also has a Lotus Courtyard. The Terrace Suites are 900-square-foot suites with en-suite terraces that overlook verdant greens. As for the existing rooms, they received a refresh as well.
Hilton announced the opening of DoubleTree by Hilton Vientiane, marking Hilton's foray into Laos as well as the company's 10th market in South East Asia. The DoubleTree hotel is located in the heart of Laos' capital city. The hotel includes 188 rooms and suites, a rooftop pool, 24 hour fitness center, three dining concepts including a rooftop Pool Bar and over 550 square meters of event space.
The Hilton Adelaide has been listed for sale for the first time in more than 30 years by private local owners, 233 Victoria Square Hotel Pty Ltd. Situated in the heart of Adelaide's entertainment, dining, shopping and business precincts, the five-star hotel is close to attractions including Adelaide Central Market, Chinatown and the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. CBRE is managing the sale via an International Expression of Interest campaign which closes on October 15th and 4 PM AEDT. The hotel occupies a 3,556 square meter site with 377 guest rooms, 20 conference and meeting rooms, a business lounge, tennis court, gym and swimming pool. The property is subject to a management agreement with Hilton Hotels of Australia Pty Ltd., with vacant possession available from July 1, 2026.
TRYP by Wyndham Southport Gold Coast will have its grand opening this October. The hotel is being developed by Azzura Investment Limited as part of its $3.8 billion Imperial Square development. The 4.5-star hotel will feature 225 self-contained suites and a range of premium amenities including an inviting rooftop infinity pool with ocean views, a luxury day spa and a fitness center. Amore Ristorante will offer Italian and Mediterranean cuisine seating up to 100 people. There will be a variety of meeting and function space options including the rooftop Imperial Lounge, cocktail function space by the rooftop infinity pool and a private dining room, the Regal Lounge.
Accor's Novotel brand announced the opening of Novotel Nara, situated along the Saho River in Nara, Japan. The Novotel Nara has 264 guest rooms that include executive suites. The property offers a variety of dining options, the Social Lounge, Rooftop Terrace on the eighth floor, conference facilities and two banquet rooms and wellness facilities including a fitness center, large public bath and a wellness lounge.
The operator of Japan's Spa Resort Hawaiians said they agreed to a tender offer from US investment fund Fortress Investment Group LLC. Fortress will launch the tender offer to acquire shares in Joban Kosan Ltd., which operates the Hawaii-themed hot springs theme park in Iwaki, Fukushima Prefecture. The acquisition is expected to cost Fortress up to 14 billion yen.
