Horwath HTL said New Zealand’s hotel sector, despite ongoing geopolitical turmoil globally, delivered another strong month in April. Hotel Data New Zealand released the details that there was healthy RevPAR growth across the country’s key centers, supported by robust international arrivals and a full calendar of major events. Domestic demand did show some early signs of softening, but international visitors were the driver of performance, particularly in higher-quality hotel segments in Auckland, Queenstown, Wellington, and Christchurch. Across New Zealand, international visitor arrivals were up 9% year-on-year in April. Australia led the growth with a rise of 11%, but Chinese visitation was up 17%. Compared with 2019, total international arrivals reached 95% of pre-pandemic levels, with China still down around 10% and other smaller arrival markets down 16%, but visitors from Australia and the U.S. were on par with 2019.
