Chinese Outbound Travel Continues to Expand
Singapore has urged Chinese authorities to restore flight capacity between the two nations to pre-Covid levels as soon as possible in a bid to improve business and tourism ties. South Korea will increase the number of flights into the country from China to 80 from 62 per week by the end of this month. European Union countries have agreed to phase out pre-departure Covid testing for travelers from China by the end of the month. -

Phoenix Hotels Project Second-Highest Revenue for a Super Bowl Weekend
According to STR , Phoenix’s hotel RevPAR is forecasted to reach $419 for February 10-12, which would be the second-highest level for a Super Bowl weekend . On Friday lodging stocks were lower. SOND was the biggest mover, down -8% while ABNB was down -5% on the day. White Lodging announced the renaming of its new Autograph Collection hotel in San Antonio, Texas , formerly known as The Otis Hotel . -

Ritz-Carlton Club Refresh Across Asia Pacific
Marriott International’s Ritz-Carlton is presenting a newly elevated experience at The Ritz-Carlton Club across its Asia Pacific hotels, joining a successful launch in Mainland China last summer. Hanwha Hotels & Resorts signed a memorandum of understanding with Lodgis Hospitality Holdings to forge a strategic partnership to mutually boost each of their hotel and resort portfolios. New Zealand’s Sotheby’s International Realty is listing an exclusive Queenstown development site, expected to sell for more than $40 million. -

China Ends January With Weekly RevPAR up 67% Over 2019
STR reported China hotel RevPAR for the week ended January 28 was up 177.8% year over year. When compared with the same week in 2019, China hotel RevPAR was up 66.6%. STR said Southeast Asia sits at the lower end of recovery compared to other STR-defined subcontinents. They are above Northeastern Asia in terms of occupancy and average daily rate in 2022. Dusit Hotels and Resorts will add 14 hotels and resorts to their portfolio this year across China, Greece, India, Japan, Kenya, Nepal and Thailand . -

Europe Will Supersede APAC as Leading Travel Region
A new report from international travel industry analysts, the Centre for Aviation , predicts the Asia Pacific region will no longer be the world’s largest travel region by the end of 2022. Hyatt Hotels announced the opening of the Fuji Speedway Hotel in Shizuoka, Japan , the first property within The Unbound Collection by Hyatt brand in Japan. Business Line reported Accor plans to divest its stake in Indian ventures , opting to go asset-light through management contract deals. -

Cambodia Says It Will Hit Pre-Pandemic Levels in 2026
The number of international tourists to Cambodia is expected to reach the pre-Covid-19 pandemic level in 2026. Indian Hotels and other hospitality firms in India have said they are eyeing price rate hikes. IHCL recently went back on that, saying the price hikes will have to wait until November. Hyatt Hotels Corp announced the opening of Hyatt Centric Sector 17 Chandigarh, marking the debut of the Hyatt Centric brand there.
