STR/CoStar reported China hotel data for the week ended March 14th. China hotel RevPAR was up 4.9%, up against an easy comp of a decline of 10.8% in the year-ago week. ADR was up 4.4% for the 2026 week, while occupancy was up 0.5%.

Despite all the claims that China’s differences with Japan would hurt their tourism, the Japan National Tourism Organization reported record visitation in February, up 6.4% year-over-year to 3.46 million. This was with a drop of 45.2% for Chinese visitation to just 396,400. Japanese officials said the arrival numbers were still boosted by the Chinese New Year holiday falling solely in February this year. South Korean visitation made up for the China decline, leading Japan’s top source markets with a rise of 28.2% to 1.09 million. Taiwan was second in source markets, up by 36.7% year-on-year to 603,600.
